Discovery Tour: Viking Age is now available as a free update for all Assassin's Creed Valhalla players; the content release adds a few exclusive rewards to the main game, as well. AC Valhalla's Discovery Tour works similar to the versions featured in AC Origins, where the mode first debuted, and AC Odyssey. Most notably, the separate exploration offering allows players to navigate the open world free of threats, all while partaking in educational lessons about the time period.

In an effort to fully immerse users in Discovery Tour's 9th Century expedition through Anglo-Saxon and Viking culture, Ubisoft partnered with several museums, such as The British Library, York Archaeological Trust, and the National Museum of Denmark to name a few. Those who don't own a copy of Valhalla shouldn't feel left out either, thanks to a standalone version that's scheduled to release across the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect for the price of $19.99. (At the time of writing, this standalone offering is only live via Ubisoft Connect.)

Today, October 19, Ubisoft rolled out Discovery Tour: Viking Age as both a free update for AC Valhalla and a separate release. The new educational mode provides players with a new way of navigating the game's vast open-world landscape. And, as previously revealed in a post on the official Assassin's Creed Twitter account, the update brings with it a few exclusive rewards for the main game. The items include a one-handed sword, skin for Eivor's raven (Sýnin), extra Ravensthorpe decorations, a horse, tattoos, and fresh longboat customization options.

The Discovery Tour: Viking Age update counts as but one of many free offerings that Ubisoft has launched for Assassin's Creed Valhalla since its arrival in November 2020. Thus far, freebies have ranged from seasonal content updates like the Ravensthorpe-centered festivals and the River Raids mode.

Premium post-launch offerings have also gone live this year in the form of story expansion. The first, Wrath of the Druids, released several months ago in mid-May and let players loose in Ireland. In August, The Siege of Paris hit digital storefronts, giving fans a chance to storm the war-torn Kingdom of Frankia in what's remembered as the most ambitious conflict in Viking history. A second year of post-launch content is planned, too, though the specifics remain a mystery.
