An Assassins Creed Valhalla datamine appears to suggest the fiery Norse realm of Muspelheim may be a future expansion. Valhalla released in November 2020 to a large amount of fanfare. Ubisoft initially had to work around some glitches in the early weeks of the release but the reviews have mostly been positive so far.

Valhalla is a massive game, with the main story estimated to require over 40 hours to fully complete. Despite the game's large size, Ubisoft has announced its plans to release DLC content.  The DLC roadmap includes two full expansions alongside free content updates. The first expansion, Wrath of the Druids, saw its original release date of April 29 delayed by two weeks. It is now scheduled to launch on May 13. The other major expansion, The Siege of Paris, is expected to be available sometime over the summer.

Eurogamer reports that players may have the chance to visit a different Norse realm in the form of Muspelheim as a potential DLC location. The reliable Assassins Creed leaker j0nathan shared an image of a datamine which suggests the hellish underworld might be arriving soon. As things stand, players can only explore two realms in the base game: Asgard and Jotunheim. Muspelheim is referenced in some interesting concept art that shows more of the flaming realm as well as fire-themed cosmetic items that are available in the store.

Ubisoft has not confirmed or denied the validity of the datamine leak at this time. It is largely thought the two planned narrative expansions will feature more Viking exploits based around Midgard, not mythical realms. This leak is calling that into question though. According to Norse mythology, Muspelheim is the realm of eternal fire. It is home to Surtur, the chief of the hellish world who is in charge of its fire giants. Surtur is depicted wielding a burning weapon.

The current expansion schedule has called into question previous claims that an altogether new Assassins Creed title could be on the way sometime in 2021. When the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is also taken into consideration, the prospect of a new Assassins Creed looks even less likely. The Valhalla crew has had its hands full lately as well. While planning for a productive summer with expansions, the Ostara Festival had to be temporarily scrapped to fix some of the performance issues related to the in-game event.

Assassins Creed games never receive post-launch content two years in a row. However, Valhalla is still incredibly popular less than a year into its original launch. This may very well open the door for a third, unannounced expansion to take shape that transports players to Muspelheim.
