Abra is a Pokémon that players will battle in One Star Raids in Pokémon GO, and it may be one of the easiest Psychic-type opponents to defeat. In traditional entries of the Pokémon series, Abra is often one of the most challenging Pokémon to capture because it will use the move Teleport. While this Psychic-type move causes Abra to flee a battle, it does not harm its opponents in those entries. However, in Pokémon GO, Abra has access to damaging moves that make it a formidable opponent.

Abra is the perfect Raid Pokémon to face for new or eager players to get their hands on an Alakazam or any trainer who needs more Abra Candy. Additionally, the evolved form of Abra, Kadabra, is a Raid boss in Pokémon GO, though the second form may be too challenging for solo players. While players can only fight Abra in One Star Raids, trainers can encounter Kadabra by joining Three Star Raids. Fortunately, both Pokémon are the same singular Psychic-type, which means any team players use to counter Abra almost certainly be used to counter Kadabra and vice versa.

Abra's weaknesses are Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type Pokémon moves. Furthermore, Abra resists Fighting- and Psychic-type attacks. In addition to the Psychic-type resistance, the kinds of Pokémon that resist Abra's attacks are Dark- and Steel-type Pokémon. Abra's Charge Moves are Psybeam, Singal Beam, and Shadow Ball, allowing the Pokémon to counter its Ghost- and Dark-type opponents. Additionally, Signal Beam allows Abra to counter Grass- and Psychic-type Pokémon.

How To Counter Abra In A Pokémon Go Raid

Pokemon Go Mega Gengar Raid Guide

In Pokémon GO, Mega Gengar is the best counter to Abra in a Raid. While Abra's Psychic moves allow it to inflict additional damage against Mega Gengar thanks to its Poison-typing, Mega Gengar's CP can be high enough to allow it to defeat, if not nearly, Abra by itself. Although Abra can evolve into Alakazam, one of the strongest attack Pokémon in the game, the basic form of this evolution line can do little against evolved forms, even as a Raid boss. Players who manage to defeat Abra can capture it with no weather boost and will get it between 712-767 CP at level 20. With a windy weather boost, the Pokémon can be captured between 890-958 CP at Level 25. Below are additional Pokémon that will help trainers counter Abra in Raids.

  • Mega Absol: Snarl and Dark Pulse
  • Mega Gyarados: Bite and Crunch
  • Yveltal: Snarl and Dark Pulse
  • Darkrai: Snarl and Dark Pulse
  • Mega Beedrill: Bug Bite and X-Scissor
  • Origin Forme Giratina: Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Hydreigon: Bite and Brutal Swing
  • Pheromosa: Bug Bite and Bug Buzz
  • Gengar: Lick and Shadow Ball
  • Chandelure: Hex and Shadow Ball
