PS5-exclusive survival game Abandoned will not be getting a proper gameplay reveal for at least "a few months," which isn't shocking considering a string of delays related to the game so far. Abandoned was revealed earlier this year with a brief, cryptic trailer and a handful of details. Some have speculatedAbandoned is a secret Hideo Kojima game, but developer Blue Box Game Studios has actively denied this and nothing real indicates the game's marketing is some sort of ruse.

Outside of some small details and general genre descriptions, people are still in the dark regarding what Abandoned is. Some have gone so far to accuse developer Blue Box Game Studios of being a scam, but the developer vehemently denies these claims. That said, some particularly invested fans may not believe the developer until they've seen the game for themselves, and that may not be happening for quite a while.

After an underwhelming PS5 teaser for Abandoned, which consisted of little more than a five-second clip of a man walking, many are skeptical Blue Box Game Studio will deliver anything substantial going forward. The developer has been promising a gameplay reveal for months and even teased a playable demo at the end of the aforementioned video, but Blue Box founder Hasan Kahraman noted to IGN it may be a while until these are released. He stated:

We're working on the gameplay reveal. But right now, it is not ready for the public to see – if you show off the very first impression of the gameplay, that is the most important footage. We want to make sure that that is polished and good enough to showcase. [...] I'm not going to give a specific date because that is the first mistake [we made], making a very tight deadline. We're hoping just in a few months, really, it won’t take too long. It's not going to take a quarter or something like that.”

Considering many are wary of Blue Box's history of unreleased games, it's likely going to be a while before wider excitement spreads again for Abandoned. PlayStation 5 players have expressed they feel burned by Abandoned's Realtime Experience app debacle - which Kahraman promises will continue to be updated - but the studio has much goodwill to earn back leading into its now-delayed 2022 release. Blue Box will release its previous game, The Haunting, for free alongside Abandoned's gameplay reveal. Although The Haunting wasn't received well in its early access period under Blue Box, it was handed off to another developer, CreateQ, and will seemingly be finished in a few months.

Based on the current trend of delays and Abandoned trailer app technical difficulties, it seems likely Blue Box will likely put the game's marketing on ice until it has much more to show. Whether or not Abandoned ends up being something worth all of the drama is uncertain, but it's certainly one of the most unique (if not endlessly convoluted) stories to come out of any corner of the gaming industry in quite some time.
