After a considerable delay, the first real look at Abandoned is here and it's basically nothing at all. Fans have been waiting for the moment of truth almost all week long after the reveal was delayed, but now, it seems likely some people might stop supporting the mystery project.

Abandoned was revealed earlier this year as a psychological horror game with photorealistic graphics. The game is intended to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, boasting the power of the console and its unique features. That said, some fans have taken the "clues" that have been left by the developer and created a large-scale conspiracy around the idea that Hideo Kojima is behind Abandoned and that it may be a Silent Hill game. That theory seems to be growing more unlikely each day, especially as fans have been strung along on a wild, unfulfilling mystery that was meant to get some answers this week.

After three days of waiting, fans were treated to a 5GB update to the PS5 Abandoned app. This was meant to debut the first look at the game, running in realtime on the console. That was somewhat true, presumably, but the only piece of footage seen on the app was a brief clip of an unidentified person walking across a room. This clip was already on Blue Box Game Studios' Twitter page on August 10th, when the app was initially uploaded. After that, a trailer and playable demo was promised (via Twitter user RuleTimeSpace) for a later date. After substantial delays to the PS5 Abandoned app, many are feeling fed up. There's still five more slots for future videos, but it remains to be seen when these clips will go live and what footage will be shown in them.

No one really knows what to make of Abandoned at this point, but it's incredibly clear that fans are losing patience. Given Hideo Kojima's considerable reputation for cryptic but well-executed teases, it seems unlikely that he'd continue to toy with fans in a way that is actively working against the game. People are losing interest, and this underwhelming debut will likely hurt development more than the Kojima theories already have.

As more and more info continues to surface regarding the origins of developer Blue Box Game Studio, people are growing more and more wary of the developer. Whether or not there's any truth to the conspiracies out there remains to be seen, but as of right now, it seems like Abandoned is letting fans down. The game is slated to release by the end of 2021, so only time will tell how that pans out.
