A24 is an independent entertainment company, founded in 2012. Since then, it's been pumping out amazing movies and documentaries, most of which received public praise from both critics and fans alike. From horror movies to comedy dramas, there is a great movie for everyone in A24's filmography.

The highest-grossing A24 movies tend to be the ones that also earn the highest scores from critics and fans, often winning several accolades. Some of them have even helped young, talented actors finally get the recognition they deserve, bolstering their careers.

The Disaster Artist (2017) - $29 Million

James Franco's The Disaster Artist (2017) is a movie about the guys behind one of the famously worst movies ever made, The Room (2003), Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) and Tommy Wiseau (James Franco).

They first met in an acting class in San Francisco and later on decided to make a movie together. It's funny, quirky, and pretty informative: after all, it's based on true events.

Spring Breakers (2012) - $31 Million

Four financially strained college students are so desperate to go to spring break in Florida that they rob a diner to fund it. While they get away with the crime, they soon end up in jail nonetheless because of their erratic behavior. Much to their surprise, they're soon bailed out by Alien (James Franco), a drug dealer who lets the girls hang around with him.

Spring Breakers (2012) is not among the highest-rated A24 movies, but it was one of the most lucrative projects, and it stars popular A-listers, such as Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Vanessa Hudgens.

Room (2015) - $36 Million

Room (2015) is a drama that made Brie Larson a household name after she won the Academy Award for the Best Actress in the film in 2016. She plays Joy, who is held captive by her kidnapper.

Her only company is her son Jack (Jacob Tremblay) and she does her best to make the depressing little shed as interesting as possible for the little one. Eventually, they manage to escape, but returning to freedom is unfortunately not as seamless as Joy would like.

Ex Machina (2015) - $38 Million

Ex Machina is among the highest-rated A24 movies, according to IMDb. A talented programmer (Domhnall Gleeson) has a chance to go and meet the company's evasive CEO (Oscar Isaac). He lives in a secluded, modern home with his servant and is hiding a groundbreaking patent: a humanoid robot, called Ava (Alicia Vikander).

The young programmer is there to assess whether or not the robot is capable of consciousness and they soon develop a curious relationship.

The Witch (2015) - $40 Million

Robert Eggers' The Witch (2016) is set in 17th century New England. After being banished from town, a Puritan family settles next to a forest. Soon after, their newborn baby goes missing.

The grief-stricken mother (Kate Dickie) tries to make sense of the tragedy and suspects that her oldest daughter, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), had something to do with the disappearance. This is a slow-burn type of movie and all the more suspenseful for it.

Midsommar (2019) - $47 Million

Ari Aster's second feature film, Midsommar (2019), is a nightmarish fairy tale set in Sweden. A group of American and British young adults decide to visit the summer festivities of the Hårga after being invited by their friends who are the mysterious group's members.

As soon as they arrive, things slowly but surely start spiraling out of control. Since one of the main themes of the movie includes a  romantic relationship breakdown, Midsommar is also hailed as one of the best break-up movies of all time.

Uncut Gems (2019) - $50 Million

Uncut Gems (2019) made waves when it was released because it stars Adam Sandler in a role that is nothing like his typical work in comedies like Grown Ups (2010) and That's My Boy (2012). This highly suspenseful thriller follows the story of a crooked jeweler who intends to pay off his debts with a rare gem from Africa. From its brilliant score by Oneohtrix Point Never to its dark cinematography, Uncut Gems is rightfully considered one of the best movies of its year.

Uncut Gems also holds a record of its own: it's the highest-grossing A24 movie if only counting domestic box office numbers, not international.

Moonlight (2016) - $65 Million

Moonlight (2016) is an indie coming-of-age story that broke quite a few records at the 2017 Academy Awards. It's the first LGBTQ+ movie to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, as well as the first movie with an all-Black cast to win the same.

The movie's main character is Chiron, an introverted boy whose mother struggles with substance abuse. The movie follows him through three major stages in life, as a child (Alex Hibbert), as a teenager (Ashton Sanders), and as an adult (Trevante Rhodes).

Lady Bird (2017) - $79 Million

Greta Gerwig's first major project as director, Lady Bird (2017), is a beautiful coming-of-age story that follows the titular Lady Bird (Saoirse Ronan) as she tries her best to navigate her family life, friendships, and budding romances.

Living in a small town, she can't wait to graduate high school and move to the East Coast. Emotionally nuanced, the film is touching, funny, and somber, all at once.

Hereditary (2018) - $81 Million

Ari Aster's Hereditary (2018), starring Toni Collette and Alex Wolff, is, to this date, the highest-grossing A24 movie of all time. Die-hard fans of the movie quickly proclaimed it as the best horror movie of the 21st century, and without a doubt, it indeed is one of the finest.

After Annie's (Collette) mother dies, the estranged family falls victim to a series of seemingly unrelated tragedies. Because they are so disconnected from one another, they fail to realize that something or somebody has been pulling the strings all along.
