I never thought I would live to see the day, but it looks like reality TV producer Mark Burnett is trying to make a series that actually helps people, instead of just being a guilty pleasure.
It will be an uphill battle to make it on the CBS fall schedule, but it will be worth it.
Production has recently been completed on a pilot for Recovery, a reality series that tracks law enforcement officials as they attempt to recover missing children. Unlike previous Burnett productions, CBS has only ordered the pilot, not the entire season. Whether the show makes the fall schedule remains to be seen, and will depend largely on the ratings for the pilot. If the series is picked up, each episode will follow one or two individual cases.
I think it's about time for a concept like this. My biggest gripe about most television shows, especially reality shows, has been that they tend to be nothing more than guilty pleasures. This show would fall squarely in the same respectable category as America's Most Wanted, but Mark Burnett has something John Walsh doesn't: high ratings.
