Though they are two distinctly different stories, A Quiet Place Part II has the same beginning and ending as A Quiet Place. The original A Quiet Place introduces audiences to a world where sound-sensitive aliens attack anything that makes a noise. In the film, Lee Abbott (John Krasinski) and Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) struggle to keep their children, Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe), safe in the new post-apocalyptic reality. However, the arrival of a baby throws a wrench in the plans, and Lee ultimately sacrifices himself to save his kids. Though things seem dire, the family finally discovers a way to defeat the monsters using Regan's hearing device feedback.

A Quiet Place 2 picks up where the first movie leaves off. After Evelyn and the kids kill some of the monsters, the family realizes the aliens destroyed their home, so they need to move on. Evelyn, Regan, and Marcus take the new baby on the road, eventually meeting old family friend Emmett (Cillian Murphy). Though Emmett is initially reluctant to help them, he accompanies Regan on a quest to a radio station to spread her hearing device feedback far and wide. In doing so, Regan hopes to help others trying to fight the aliens.

Interestingly, both films have similar beginnings and endings. In A Quiet Place, the Abbott family starts at a store, gathering medicine and supplies. The film ends with Regan using her hearing device feedback to disturb the monsters and Evelyn killing them with a gun. In a pre-apocalypse flashback, the sequel also starts at the store, showing Lee getting oranges to bring to Marcus' baseball game. Finally, A Quiet Place 2 ends with Regan again using her hearing device feedback, sending it over the radio to help her and her brother kill aliens.

By mirroring the original, the film ties back to what audiences loved. A Quiet Place was a surprise hit, and Krasinski, who also directed the film, didn't initially have plans for a sequel. The similar beginning in A Quiet Place 2 immediately brings audiences back into the world of the Abbotts, giving a glimpse of locations they're familiar with and showing what the family was like before the alien attack. The ending does something similar, adding to the excitement by showing the Abbotts have taken their monster-killing solution to the next level, allowing others to fight back against the aliens too.

Though the similarities between the two movies bring audiences back into the story, a third A Quiet Place film needs to differentiate itself. The similarities between the first and second movies can sometimes feel like too much of a retread, with A Quiet Place Part II simply trying to pull the same tricks as the first film. However, the second time around, things are a bit more predictable and just a little less captivating. So while the similarities work for two films, three would be pushing it. A third A Quiet Place film needs new tricks up its sleeve.
