A Nightmare on Elm Street Trailer #2

We now have a second official trailer for the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street This is the first Elm Street film without Robert Englund in the striped jumper and razor glove; instead we have the inspired casting choice of Rorschach himself, Jackie Earle Haley. Personally, it was Haley's casting alone that made me have some degree of faith in this movie.

The first Elm Street trailer pleasantly surprised a fair amount of people. You'll notice that this new trailer still doesn't give us a proper look at the new Freddy's face (although you can see it (in a way) via the action figure) but I say showing less is a good thing for now.

Keeping him mostly hidden in shadows and just hearing Haley do that creepy-as-hell voice is enough to hook in an audience (I like that they're bringing him back to being scary instead of continuing him as the almost pantomime character he ultimately became). And the fact that the franchise name is already established certainly doesn't hurt awareness.

The trailer gets a little noisy at the end (we've seen this happen more and more with horror trailers in particular) but I have to admit I'm interested in seeing this film. The dream sequences look imaginative, the tone is just about right and I dig the references to the original ("Don't... fall... asleep."). Out of all the remakes/re-imaginings of classic horror properties, this is the one that has the most potential in my opinion.

What do you think of the latest trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street? Enough to make you forgive that it's yet another remake?

A Nightmare on Elm Street creeps into theaters on April 30th, 2010.
