The latest episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way featured a chaotic showdown between Brittany Banks and Yazan Abo Horira’s family. Several Muslim fans, including Before The 90 Days’ star Avery Mills, called out Yazan’s Jordanian parents for disrespecting their son’s fiancé, declaring the family is an “embarrassment to the culture.

Sparks flew when Brittany, an aspiring rapper from Florida, saw Yazan, a mechanical engineer from Amman. Their love saw beyond the distance and cultural differences. Yazan went against his conservative Muslim family’s wishes when he proposed to Brittany, but he didn’t take her American culture into consideration. Brittany, on the other hand, was still married to her ex and hid the fact that she wasn’t yet divorced from Yazan. At the start of the season, Brittany departed from the States to settle down in Jordan, but trouble soon followed. In true reality TV fashion, Yazan seethed with jealousy on seeing his fiancé hug a TLC crew member at the airport. A major altercation followed that made Brittany reconsider her move, but she stayed and decided to meet her future in-laws, who treated her with severe disrespect.

Yazan’s father agreed to let his son marry Brittany if she changed her religion, but he still had an issue with his daughter-in-law having social media profiles. He referred to her as a “prostitute,” while Yazan’s mother raised her voice at Brittany and told her she wasn't allowed to tell her future husband "no." Since Brittany didn't understand the language, she was left utterly confused with no option but to storm out of the house. The argument didn’t go down well with the show’s viewers, who said the way Yazan and his family interacted with Brittany was “so cringey to watch.” A Middle Eastern fan on Reddit explained that the culture has a rich heritage steeped in hospitality. They mentioned that they've never heard of anyone treating a guest in their home this way. The Redditor said, “Using the language to intimidate a non-native speaking guest, and then to call her names like prostitute completely disgusted me. In our culture, we are raised to ALWAYS treat guests with dignity and respect in our homes. What they did was nothing short of disgusting, and a very, very poor reflection of our cultural values." The fan also wrote that the strangest part of the scene was how the family and Yazan were trying to ram cultural values down Brittany’s throat, but couldn’t even adhere to the basics themselves.

Mimicking the views of the fans, 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days alum Avery Mills also commented on the situation. The Islam-converted American and wife to Omar Albakkour from Lebanon took to her Twitter account to speak about the ridiculous behavior of Yazan's parents. From the perspective of an American converted to Islam who now wears a hijab, Avery wrote that Yazan's family, “had the chance to show the beautiful side of Islam and have her spark an interest on her own. But instead they were rude and she will probably look at Islam in this way. Alhamdulillah my in-laws treat me with respect and love [because] I couldn’t deal with this at ALL.” Read the Tweet for yourself below:

Avery’s tweets were met with supportive responses from 90 Day Fiancé fans who agreed that they felt bad for Brittany during that scene. Although they know Brittany hasn’t been completely honest about her divorce, they feel she didn’t deserve to be left feeling scared and alone in a country she’s hardly familiar with. As the fate of Brittany and Yazan’s relationship hangs in the balance, fans will be glued to their screens when the next episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way airs this Monday.
