Yara Zaya from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise recently spoke out about Russian aggression and a possible impending war that is threatening her home country of Ukraine, and mentioned that her family is in a safe place. As tensions mount at the Ukrainian border, fans have wondered about Yara’s feelings on the potential dangers her family faces. Yara is extremely concerned, and from the tone of her latest Instagram post, the situation is weighing on her heavily.

When she first appeared on 90 Day Fiancé season 8, Yara didn’t seem like she was eager to leave home in Ukraine and move to the United States to be with her fiancé, Jovi Dufren. Though Jovi’s parents were initially worried that Yara just wanted a Green Card and a free ticket to America, they were shocked to find that if Yara had her way, she would be moving back to Ukraine with Jovi after getting married. But the couple decided to stay in the U.S. with their young daughter, Mylah, and have been trying to figure out where in the country they should set down roots. Yara is still very close with her family in Ukraine and will always have strong ties to her homeland.

In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up its aggression towards neighboring country Ukraine, and Russian President Vladamir Putin has resisted attempts from the U.S. and Ukraine to de-escalate. With Yara’s family still residing in Ukraine, Yara is understandably concerned and recently commented in an Instagram post that she is “scared” and “worried.” But Yara’s not too anxious about her loved ones back home. “My family is all in a safe place, I am worried about my country,” she added, lamenting the fact that war is looming.

It’s great to hear that Yara’s family is safe, but the 90 Day Fiancé star is right to be concerned. According to the AP, Russia currently has an estimated 150,000 troops stationed at the Ukrainian border, and President Putin plans to run a test on Russia’s nuclear weapons apparatus. Yara’s worries are understandable, and they may be heightened due to the fact that, because of the pandemic, she hasn’t been back to Ukraine since she came to the U.S. in early 2020. A potential conflict between the two countries could make it even longer before Yara is able to visit, and the home she goes back to might not be the same.

Yara’s 90 Day Fiancé journey took her far from home, but now, because of international conflict, Yara is feeling fresh concern for her family and Ukraine. It’s encouraging to know that Yara’s family is safe, at least for now, but there’s an entire country of people whom Yara relates to who are now at risk. It’s not too surprising that Yara wouldn’t want to open up about what she and her family are going through, but fans certainly appreciate the update.
