90 Day Fiancé is one of the most popular reality television shows on the airwaves. Over multiple seasons and several spinoffs, fans have been glued to their television screens, watching couples start new lives together against all odds. The pairs barely know one another and live in different countries while trying to forge forth and create a union. The premise is perfect for high levels of drama to play out.

Some of the drama that fans catch on-screen is one hundred percent real. Lots of tense moments between couples and families occur, to be sure. That said, some of the moments shown might not be as authentic as fans think. These particularly strange scenes were courtesy of the crew and production team, not the couples themselves.

Pretend Pregnancy

Cassia Tavares said that it wasn't just the editing that the crew and production put their hands into for effect. In her storyline, she takes a pregnancy test in front of the cameras.

The taking of the test was not her idea; instead, it was suggested by the people working behind the scenes. It was obvious that she was not expecting, but the film crew and production team knew that a possible baby on the way would make for a few minutes of drama-filled reality television, so they filmed it.

Uncomfortable Run-Ins

Remember the drama that occurred when Varya Malina surprised David at his home in Tennessee only to discover another woman by David's side?

Fans might be interested to know that it was the 90 Day Fiancé production team who set up the entire run in, all for the sake of the ratings. They hurt feelings and set people up so that ratings would soar. They got what they wanted, but it was at the expense of the people involved in the scene and storyline.

Shady Dealings For Drama

Jay Smith and Ashley Martson are no longer together, and Smith lays some of the blame at the 90 Day Fiancé team's feet. He claimed that an infidelity scandal that he was involved in was due to production's meddling.

Smith said that the woman whom he got caught having a dalliance with was actually paid to engage with him. If this is true, it proves the crew will go far to get their fair share of staged drama.

Staged Danger

Deavan Clegg appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way with her former husband, Jihoon. She has spoken very publicly about how the crew and production team script and edit moments to best fit their preferred storylines.

She said that one bizarre moment was staged by the crew where she felt her daughter was put in danger. Clegg accused the 90 Day Fiancé team of putting her family into harm's way with the scene where her young daughter Drascilla ran away.

Surgery For Show

Larissa Lima is now divorced from Colt Johnson, and while she has stopped being a part of the franchise, she hasn't stopped speaking out on the strange, staged moments courtesy of crew and production.

Lima has made waves with her bevy of plastic surgery sessions. She claimed that the people behind the scenes created the whole surgery storyline to get fans and viewers murmuring.

Made-Up Massage

It was the 90 Day Fiancé team's idea to set up the weird storyline with Annie, Chris, and the creepy massage. David fell hard for his lady Annie, and David's pal Chris kindly allowed the lovebirds to live with him.

Things got super awkward with the trio when Chris asked Annie to rub his shoulders. Chris said that the moment was thought up by the production team, not by him. After seeing the moment play out on television, he wished he had not taken the crew's advice on making the moment happen.

Strange Staged Posture

Have you ever noticed that 90 Day Fiancé ladies all sit in very awkward and uncomfortable positions during their interviews? Their knees are pulled into their chests, and they never sit relaxed and natural.

This is no coincidence; the female interview positioning is by design. The film crew stages this portion of the show, making sure that all participating women adhere to guidelines regarding seated positions in interviews.

Michael And Sarah's Prenup Drama Was Pretty Staged

Michael, Julianna, and ex-wife Sarah have one of the notoriously healthier and drama-free relationships in all of 90 Day Fiancé history. Julianna and Sarah seem to have a lovely friendship, and Michael and Sarah also see eye to eye on just about everything, a rarity among exes.

Knowing this, it seems strange that viewers saw so much tension building around the prenuptial agreement between Michael and Julianna. All three members have claimed that the TLC crew coerced them into filming those particular scenes.

Cesear And Maria's Entire Storyline Was The Product Of Production

While some moments between couples seem to be in thanks to the crew and production team, one couple's whole romance might have been a 90 Day Fiancé crew creation. There are claims that the romance between Maria and Cesear was over before filming even began.

One Reddit user is adamant that the moment between the supposed pair was scripted and heavily edited and that Cesear was acting instead of being authentically pursuing a relationship with Maria.

Scripting, Scripting, And More Scripting

Often, participants in the series have come forth to say that the words they speak on camera don't always come from their own brains. 90 Day Fiancé, like many similar reality shows, contains a heavy dose of scripting.

Former cast member Nikki Cooper has said that the crew doesn't hand those being filmed an actual script to read from, but they do say things like, "Oh, it would be cool if you did this," or production and crew might suggest that cast members say certain things to buff up the drama factor. Think about some of the stranger lines you have heard on the show? Might they be scripted ones?
