After all his appearances in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, many viewers are sick of Tom Brooks, but the luxury-obsessed Brit started yet another social media account to show off his love of traveling. The one-time boyfriend of Darcey Silva has overhauled his image, though fans aren’t feeling Tom’s big makeover. Commenters ripped him to shreds over his pretentious new Instagram account and have serious doubts about the legitimacy of his meager group of followers.
On 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, Tom dated Darcey Silva, and though he seemed like a suave and sophisticated English gentleman, it wasn’t long before his ugly side started to show. Darcey grew upset when Tom repeatedly put her on the back burner and he even accused her of gaining weight in an especially petty moment. Eventually, the couple split and Tom and Darcey both moved on to other relationships. Since then, Tom has gotten a lot of flack from fans who have alleged he shares fake luxury photos and mock his pretentious style in general.
Tom has been on Instagram for years, but he recently set up a new account. The account is called tombrooksthetravelguy and is supposedly focussed on “luxury hotels, travel, (and) food.” The profile reads, “It’s a big world out there, come travel my favorite places with me personally,” and after 22 posts has racked up under 1,200 followers. The new account follows only two others, including Tom Brooks’ new girlfriend Mariah and his personal account. The feed is full of photos of luxury-ish scenes with little to no context.
Although American Airlines and British Airways are linked in the profile, there’s no indication that this account has a legitimate business purpose, and fans were highly critical of it. “This man wants to live the rich lifestyle so baaaaad on his Motel 6 budget,” one fan joked on Reddit, and another added “‘Travel Guy’ Such a nice way of saying you surf couches across the globe.” Many roasted Tom’s desire to be perceived as rich and high class, and speculated that he had purchased followers for the new account.
There are many 90 Day Fiancé who think Tom Brooks is aiming to get on another franchise spin-off like The Single Life, and that this new account is him trying to achieve influencer status. The new account is certainly strange, especially because it’s not much different from his original account, and it’s not clear exactly why Tom set it up in the first place. If Tom was trying to change fans’ perceptions of him, he hasn’t been successful, and his overall social media behavior isn’t doing him any favors either.
