90 Day Fiancé newcomer, Thais Ramone, has had a difficult time getting along with Patrick Mendes’s brother, John Mendes, but many viewers believe she is right to be wary of him. Patrick met the Brazilian beauty when he went to reconnect with his father. After dating for 11 months, he proposed, and they planned for the K-1 visa. However, her time in the U.S. has proven to be a difficult transition for her, Patrick, and his brother.
Similar to other couples, Thais and Patrick have their differences and struggle in communication. Thais would like more input from him in regards to interior decorating and their finances. Meanwhile, Patrick prefers to be tight-lipped about finances since they’re “not married yet” and is strict about what his 90 Day Fiancé partner can buy. However, that isn’t their only concern. Patrick shares his home with his brother, John, and ever since her arrival, he has been less than accepting of their relationship.
Thais knew John was living with Patrick before she arrived, but she wasn’t thrilled about the idea of sharing a home with a stranger. John was equally unenthusiastic with Thais’ arrival and isn’t afraid to show it. Despite knowing Thais’ discomfort with parties and other women being around Patrick, or that the couple wouldn’t be excited with the prospect of a party, John still threw one anyway. In the latest episode, he even attempted to convince Patrick to have a bachelor party with "100 hookers."
Additionally, he continuously rubs Thais the wrong way by injecting his opinion when it’s unwanted and unnecessary. When Thais admitted her father doesn’t know about her marrying 90 Day Fiancé's Patrick, John confronted her, while also mocking her cooking. Thais attempted to explain how it was her decision and a discussion for her and Patrick only. However, John continued to pressure her for answers and persuade her to change her mind. This isn’t the first time John has willingly given his opinion or interjected into their relationship problems. While John attempts to come across as a caring brother, his antics point toward being jealous and territorial of Patrick.
To an extent, Patrick’s hesitancy to choose between the two is understandable. John is family, and they’ve had a rough upbringing, so fans can sympathize with their connection. However, Thais is supposed to be his future wife, and John clearly disrespects not only her but their relationship as well, which has consistently complicated their situation. Not to mention, John is more than willing to share how much he loathes his brother’s fiancé, and Patrick is all too willing to listen too. The constant turmoil has put Patrick in an awkward position, and 90 Day Fiancé viewers are hoping the couple figures out a middle ground.
