Tania Maduro of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise recently raised awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month by sharing her own experiences with abuse from when she was a child. Though she must have a lot on her mind with her impending divorce from ex-husband Syngin Colchester, Tania still took time to draw attention to an important issue with which she, unfortunately, has personal experience.

Syngin and Tania haven’t always been well-received by franchise fans who thought their relationship was unconventional and doomed to fail. However, the couple had several happy years together before Tania confirmed her breakup with Syngin recently. Even now, the two exes seem to be on good terms. Post-breakup, Syngin will be appearing on 90 Day: The Single Life season 2 alongside other franchise alums like Natalie Mordovtseva and Big Ed Brown. Tania has revealed she will be joining Stephanie Matto’s new NSFW media sharing platform Unfiltrd in the wake of her and Syngin’s separation.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and Tania recently took to Instagram to tell fans about her own history with an abusive family member. She recounted the story of her stepfather, who met her mother when Tania was only four years old. Though he seemed like a decent man at first, Tania revealed that after his marriage to her mother, he changed entirely. 90 Day Fiancé star Tania revealed that she saw her stepfather physically abuse her mother and that he “spewed venom verbally” at her while she was growing up, which left “mental scars.

The trauma left Tania with nightmares and PTSD. She said that due to a broken legal system, her stepfather “still walks free to this day” and has not been held accountable for his reprehensible actions. It was brave of her to share these experiences, and it’s an important message to send, especially this month. “So many don't live to tell their stories,” Tania said. “Believe survivors before it's to late to help them.” It’s a timely story for 90 Day Fiancé fans, who just saw franchise alum Geoffrey Paschel on trial for assault of an ex-girlfriend.

Unfortunately, abuse is nothing new to the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. Aside from Geoffrey’s recent domestic violence conviction, there have been many other instances of unacceptable behavior on and off the show. Abuse is an insidious evil that flourishes when people don’t talk about or address it, and it’s brave of Tania to step into the light to share her own experiences as an inspiration to others. TLC should have a no-tolerance policy when it comes to abuse, but unfortunately, they’ve allowed abusers on the show on more than one occasion. After several of these instances, many fans have called out TLC for abusive behavior on the franchise. Now, it’s nice to see one of the stars making efforts to promote awareness of this important issue.
