Newcomer Steven immediately caught the attention of 90 Day Fiancé viewers due to his eccentric behavior. Steven's eccentricities have since been overshadowed by his hypocrisies. The Other Way viewers are now labeling Steven the leading season 3 villain.
Steven and Alina's young romance is quickly souring. The American and Russian couple traveled to Turkey to marry so that Steven can enter Russia with Alina, given the current pandemic restrictions. However, the couple was shocked by the lengthy marriage process in Turkey. This led to Steven admitting that he was uncertain about whether or not he wanted to marry Alina. The Mormon man also confessed to seeing other women while they were engaged, as well as misleading Alina about him being a virgin. Despite his behavior, Steven still expects Alina to remain a virgin for marriage. Also, Steven forbid her from swallowing wine during a bizarre wine tasting.

The user wrote, "At the beginning of the season, Ariela & Evelin pulled ahead but I have a feeling Steven is outshining them." Steven easily ranked as the lead villain of the season thus far, with viewers weighing in on why he is their least favorite cast member. "Steven is in the same league as Andrew, Pred, and Coltee where the mere sight of him makes me feel violently ill," one commenter weighed in as they compared Steven to franchise cast members Andrew Kenton, Big Ed Brown, and Colt Johnson. "I voted Steven because I don't even watch the Evelyn segments anymore. They get an automatic fast forward 🤷♀️," another person wrote. "Steven is going to win this by a landslide," another fan chimed in.
With over 800 fans weighing in on the poll, Steven easily pulled ahead as the lead choice for villain. The American earned double the votes of the second-ranked villain, Evelin Villegas. Numerous viewers wrote that they now skipped the segments with Evelin and her husband, Corey Rathgeber. Meanwhile, Ariela Weinberg saw a significant drop in votes for being a villain as she clocked in third. A few fans also voted for Sumit Singh and his family, while Ariela's partner Biniyam Shibre and his family received the smallest amount of votes. "I voted for steven. Ariela is pretty bad but compared to Steven, he is still worse. I don’t really see Bini /Sumit and family being villains. They’re just worried for their family. No comment on Evelin cause I just skip over her segments," one commenter explained.
With Steven becoming a villain, fewer fans have criticized Ariela. The American started the season as the leading villain due to her controversial decision to have her ex-husband Leandro Fosque stay with her, Biniyam, and their son Aviel. Viewers accused Ariela of still harboring feelings for Leandro, which could lead to Biniyam having his heartbroken. While some viewers questioned if Ariela and Biniyam's plot was scripted, many feel that Steven is behaving in a genuinely negative way. 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way viewers are urging Alina to dump Steven before marriage.
