90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Steven Johnston is being called out for being a gaslighter after his behavior with Russian girl Alina as they move to Turkey. With three days left for Steven to leave behind Salt Lake City, Utah, and Alina to say goodbye to her family in Novosibirsk, fans finally found out the Mormon man’s big secret. Alina’s mom Anna surprised everyone by calling Steven a stranger, and it was also revealed that he’d asked his girlfriend for permission to date other girls. Amidst this, 90 Day Fiancé viewers who already felt protective of 20-year-old Alina got to know about Steven’s shady past and him being a hypocrite when it came to staying in the same house as her before marriage.

Steven, who fans are already comparing to his namesake from 90 Day Fiancé, Mr. Frend, let viewers down after coming across as affable in episode 1. After having found a cast member that was likable, some fans saw a happy ever after in the future for Steven and Alina. But Steven did something that did not follow the standards of the Mormon church, despite him having gifted Alina a copy of the Book of Mormon in Russian. The former pest control salesman looked forward to converting Alina, whose mother suspected he could be eyeing her organs. However, some 90 Day Fiancé fans suspected that Steven wasn't a virgin which he came clean about on TOW episode 2.

90 Day Fiancé viewers on a Reddit thread by u/Phreekkota17 discussed Steven’s sketchy tactics and labeled him as “gross and weird.” Fans wondered why Alina was dating him, to begin with, as they predicted that Steven had the makings of becoming the next villain of the franchise after Amira Lollysa’s ex Andrew Kenton. While there was something weird about Steven that fans couldn’t put a finger on, they wondered if he eventually was looking to spend time with Alina in Turkey by winning her trust only to not marry her in the end.

The fact that Steven and Alina had just spent two weeks together in person and dated online for a year, during which he also wanted to see other girls, was a giant red flag. Meanwhile, Alina was taking a year off her University and was also a virgin who was absolutely not okay with her future husband being polyamorous. “At first I thought Steven just seemed like a creep but now I know he is an absolute piece of s**t gaslighting creep #90DayFiancé,” posted 90 Day Fiancé viewer @edenwillow on Twitter, and @vegasgirlblog wrote, “Alina, why is parting ways not an option at this point? It certainly is! You barely know Steven!

However, Steven booking two separate apartments for him and Alina in turkey by claiming that they might accidentally get physical did ring warning bells in Alina's head. She wondered if Steven was planning to meet other girls' on the side, which may have been his plan all along. Steven admitting that the “law of chastity” is something he’s struggled with while he also convinces Alina that they have to save themselves for marriage surely will make fans see him as the biggest hypocrite on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
