Viewers have been blasting Steven Johnston for his offensive behavior at the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3 Tell-All, but 90 Day Fiancé fans are also calling out the American man for how he behaves in his personal life. Steven appeared onstage to insult several of his fellow cast members, while his Russian wife Alina called in over video chat since her visa had yet to be approved. Though Steven's ex-girlfriend Vanessa arrived to try to get Alina to leave her husband, Alina angered fans by sticking with Steven. However, 90 Day Fiancé fans can’t get over the extreme hypocrisy Steven shows in his life and relationship.
Steven became a quick franchise villain after he revealed that he expected his partner Alina to be baptized into the Mormon church with him even though he had broken many of his religion’s vows. The American expected Alina to abstain from drinking coffee and remain a virgin until marriage even though Steven admitted to hooking up with close to 100 women and having sex with a number of them, including one woman while he was dating Alina. Despite discovering that Steven did not abide by the rules of his church although he expected her to, Alina made the choice to marry Steven and pursue a future with him. The Tell-All revealed that she is still standing by his side even though Steven talked to nine women in a week.
Reddit user u/auraQ8 put Steven on blast for his audacity to request Alina follow the rules of his church when he consistently breaks them. "Steven: 'For some reason I really want to have a threesome,'" the user wrote above a meme photo revealing their disgust with his request. Many commenters were baffled by Steven's desire for a threesome despite his strict rules for Alina. "He wants a threesome and she can’t even drink coffee anymore. Make that make sense," one top commenter ranted. "I wish Alina would go back home without him. She’s so young to be saddled with him," another user wrote back as many expressed their sympathy for Alina.
Many viewers are perplexed over why Steven chose to marry Alina when he clearly isn't ready for commitment. "He could've had all the threesomes in the world without getting married. I don't understand why he had to drag Alina into this. I really don't understand what his problem is," one user voiced. Users agreed that Steven's problem was marrying someone and committing to a monogamous relationship when he clearly doesn't want to only be with Alina. "Yeah, either don't get married or invest in a consensual non-monogamous relationship. No, Steven is too pious for that. He has to be in a 'committed' relationship where no rules apply to him and he can exert control over someone else" another user explained.
Vanessa did her best to help Alina realize that Steven was not the man he portrayed himself to be, as he had also cheated on Vanessa. However, Alina appears fixated on "fixing" Steven. Though some viewers still sympathize with the Russian woman due to her young age, many are losing patience with Alina continually excusing Steven's bad behavior. Many 90 Day Fiancé fans think that Alina has been presented with enough evidence of Steven's infidelity and dishonest behavior to understand what kind of a person he is. However, the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star refuses to acknowledge Steven's hypocrisy or end their relationship.
