Steven Johnston is having second thoughts about getting married to Alina, and 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans couldn’t help but chide him for not doing his research before moving to Turkey. Steven has come a long way from being the awkward guy with the long hair and organ-selling jokes in the premiere to almost being a franchise villain. The devout Mormon has been called strange and immature by 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans, who also think he’s controlling and manipulative with Alina. And more bizarre is the fact that Steven believed their wedding in Turkey was going to be like having one in Las Vegas.

Steven is coming across as problematic on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way in more ways than one. After having met Alina on a language exchange app, Steven met her in person for just two weeks and has been in a long-distance relationship with her for a year. During their short time together, Steven asked Alina permission to date other girls. The Utah native also kept not being a virgin a secret from Alina while he expects her to abstain from skoodilypoop until they marry. On the show, the couple is currently on a tourist visa in Turkey, and Steven’s big plan is to convert Alina to Mormonism and get married within 90 days to move to Russia.

However, a 90 Day Fiancé clip on YouTube revealed that Steven’s Turkey plan may have been half-baked as he broke into a sweat upon hearing the lengthy marriage process in episode 5. Steven and Alina met immigration attorney Tunay Egin, who explained that the process is a tough one as they are getting married in a different country. “I thought we would just go to a courthouse or something, kind of like in Vegas, and just kind of make it happen,” confessed Steven when explaining that it would be longer than what he expected. The former pest control salesman was judged by fans in the comments who wrote things such as, “Imagine moving to a new country to get married without even reading about the process beforehand,” and “It’s common sense that there’d be plenty of steps. He seems a bit clueless.

Moreover, Steven seemed aghast at the fact that he would have to start the marriage process immediately since he and Alina have a 90-day limit on their visa. Steven laughed nervously and called it the “harder part” and a “big decision,” indicating he’s not yet ready to propose to Alina. The newest warning sign about Steven is him not using Google before moving to Turkey, but fans are wondering why he’s neither ready to sleep in the same apartment with Alina nor get married. Fans also noticed that Steven couldn’t keep his hands off Alina during the meeting, which again gave them ample reasons to declare that he has zero impulse control.

TLC viewers were thrilled to finally see a new couple on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, but Alina and Steven’s storyline has left them disappointed. Alina is being asked to break up with Steven and focus on her education and career instead. Steven still has to reveal his dark past to Alina, which might change her mind about marrying him. Unless Steven shows serious commitment towards Alina, his actions will keep earning him more criticism. And with the Masha honeytrap situation yet to be explored, Steven’s tally of red flags is only going to increase.
