Stephanie Matto made 90 Day Fiancé history by being a part of the franchise's first same-sex couple. However, the reality star has since received criticism for her portrayal on the show. Recently she addressed a comment she made to clarify her stance on dating someone with children.

The 30-year-old made her reality television debut on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days. As one half of the first same-sex couple in the show's extended franchise, Stephanie traveled to Australia to meet up with Erika Owens. However, some fans questioned if the bisexual Stephanie actually had feelings for Erika or if the YouTuber feigned a love story for fame. Stephanie's meet-up with her online girlfriend left Erika perplexed when Stephanie appeared far different than the sexy personality she displayed on YouTube. Stephanie's lack of intimacy quickly caused things with Erika to end, which led to accusations that Stephanie faked her half of the love story. Stephanie, who classifies herself as a demisexual bisexual, has been open with her followers on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. In the past, she has opened up about suffering from the autoimmune disease anemia, and this week she took the time to clarify a comment she made on not wanting to date someone with children because she is terrified of other people's kids.

The blonde beauty shared on her Instagram Story that she wouldn’t want to date someone who had kids, but that she wasn’t opposed to fostering or adopting. “When dating someone who had kids with someone else, you are always going to have to deal with the intricacies of your partner still having a former partner in the picture,” she wrote. Stephanie went on to explain that her parents’ divorce “traumatized” her, especially because she didn’t get along with her stepmother. “There is so much potential for tension between a birth mother and step parent- or even just a girlfriend,” she continued. She said that it is incredibly difficult to introduce children to a new partner and that she has been on both ends of the situation. In another post on the subject, Stephanie clarified that she had briefly dated someone with children and it was “just awkward” to her. “I feel children need to be protected at all costs and while I know I am not a threat to the child, I can’t help but think that my mere existence is detrimental to them in some way.” She added that while blended families can work, she considers herself to be “a product of a situation that was VERY toxic.” She added that she had a strained relationship with her father for many years that affected other relationships in her life. Therefore, she said she doesn’t want to inadvertently hurt any children by being involved with a parent with kids. However, Stephanie added that she would consider fostering a child in the future since she cannot physically have a child

While Stephanie's time on reality television has currently come to a close, there are still other couples in the franchise to follow. New episodes of season 8 of 90 Day Fiancé are currently airing Sundays on TLC.
