Since season 1 of 90 Day Fiancé, Russ and Paola Mayfield have maintained their OG couple status on and off the show. While Russ and Paola have appeared on multiple TLC shows, their respective Instagram accounts have allowed viewers to follow their journey through marriage and into parenthood. Paola, in particular, is no stranger to both praise and criticism in her IG comments, with fans often polarized over her makeovers and thirst trap pics. But if there’s one thing that unites her fans and critics, it would be her adorable son Axel.
Viewers were first introduced to Paola and Russ in season 1 of 90 Day Fiancé, when the Columbian native moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be with her fiancé Russ. As Russ’ friends and family struggled with Paola’s flamboyant behavior and sexuality, many fans wondered if she was right for Russ. Such concerns were ultimately forgotten after their emotional and heartfelt wedding that established them as one of the show’s first successful couples. Russ and Paola became a mainstay of the series’ adjacent shows, appearing on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? for four seasons, as well as on 90 Day: Pillow Talk, and 90 Day: Self Quarantine. Although the couple has had its share of ups and downs, their love and genuine connection are undeniable, so it came as no surprise when the two announced in July 2018 that they were expecting their first child. The couple welcomed baby Axel on January 1, 2019, to universal support from their fans.
Since his Instagram debut, Axel has become a beloved guest on both his parents’ accounts, whether it be Russ’s more family-oriented Instagram feed or his mother’s influencer-style account. Now, just over a week after his second birthday, Paola posted a new picture of Axel giving the camera his best Blue Steel impression. “I asked him to give me a kiss,” Paola captioned the photo, while commenters couldn’t get enough of the adorable toddler. Some were quick to point out how much Axel resembles his parents, as one commented, “He is literally an exact combo of the 2 of you! So precious!” The rest of the comments feed is understandably strewn with hearts and praise.
Fans also took note of the location of the photo, Colorado Springs, which is a long way from sunny Florida where Russ and Paola previously resided. That’s because, on December 2, Paola posted a “bye bye florida” photo, marking the couple’s plans to take their holidays on the road. Since then, the family has also popped up in Columbus, Georgia, and Russ’s hometown of Tulsa. The pair has made no indication that they will be returning to Florida any time soon, so the continued travel pictures leave fans wondering where the family will go next? Axel, for one, seems to have no problem with the cold weather, sporting a very on-trend camo-print fleece, so perhaps Colorado Springs could be a place to set down some permanent roots.
Paola has gotten criticism in the past for featuring Axel in some of her Instagram photos that some fans considered too sexual in tone to include the toddler. Currently, throughout her feed, the 90 Day Fiancé star has few photos of Axel on his own—he usually appears with one or both of his parents. With a new year, could this new photo mark a change in Paola’s Instagram priorities? Perhaps fans will be seeing fewer selfies and more Axel glamor shots as 2021 takes off.
