TLC is back with 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way and the premiere saw the return of season 1 stars Jenny Slatten and Sumit. All set to make it work a third time around, 62-year-old Jenny from Palm Springs, California and 32-year-old Sumit from Delhi, India are still going strong. But, will the couple with their three-decade age difference, a history of catfishing, and a secret marriage end up getting his parents’ blessings?
Sumit, apart from keeping Jenny a secret from his family, was also hiding one from her. He was already married to another woman for the last two years and the highly dramatic revelation left Jenny devastated. Sumit’s family, who opposed the idea of their son marrying someone twice his age, had gotten him into an arranged marriage as per traditions. Jenny, who had come to the country on a visitor visa had no option but to go back home to California. Broke, heartbroken, and homeless, she had to move in with her daughter. But things aren't looking any better for the turbulent twosome in season 2. In the latest episode, Sumit's parents refused to join Jenny on a videocall even after numerous requests which indicated that even though his divorce might be underway, there's still a lot of convincing left to do. Furthermore, Sumit confessed to his group of close friends, who themselves don't seem too assured, that he's agreed to pay his father-in-law a sum of $20,000 to annul the marriage.
While Jenny’s family struggles to see the truth, the question that’s on everyone’s mind is, whether Sumit’s parents will finally come around to accepting their marriage. Along with the age gap, the vast differences in their cultures and traditions serve a massive hurdle to the relationship. Financial troubles also lurk in the background coupled with the idea that his parents refer to the duo as being "downright odd." Since Sumit’s parents haven’t initially been the biggest fans of Jenny, its worth waiting to see how this future marriage pans out. The past season has shown us that Jenny shifting base to India was not the best of ideas. And when you throw Sumit’s impending divorce in the mix, there seems to be a lot of trouble brewing for both of them.
A few hopeful fans, along with Jenny’s own daughter seem to wish she would call the relationship off, but this is one love story that’s continued to rake in eyeballs for 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way since season 1. Divorce proceedings that may last for months, hasty applications for meagre social security benefits and a sneak peek where Sumit claims to have been "dying" in his arranged marriage are sure to keep Jenny on her toes for the upcoming episodes. Whether the audience sees Slatten learn from her mistakes or gets to experience what might become Sumit’s redeeming arc; there’s a lot of drama that’s going to come up in 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 2!
