Serbian 90 Day Fiancé cast member Miona Bell’s before and after photos on Instagram have led to accusations of blackfishing. Jibri Bell, from South Dakota, met Miona two and a half years ago when he was touring with his band Black Serbs, in her country. The Nis woman gave Jibri butterflies in his stomach, and before they knew it, he was proposing to Miona during a vacation in Thailand. In 90 Day Fiancé season 9, Miona is moving to America to stay with Jibri and his family. Although Miona wants a Kardashian-type lifestyle in Los Angeles, she might have to settle for one in Rapid City.

The goofy and wild Jibri found his soulmate in the small, feisty fireball with a temper that is Miona. Jibri left home at 17 and lived in a bunch of places across the United States before making Los Angeles his home. However, applying for Miona’s K-1 visa, the pandemic taking a toll on his gigs, and traveling all over the world burned a hole in Jibri’s wallet forcing him to move back into his parents’ home. He wants Miona to stay with him in his small city for about six to 12 months until Black Serbs frontman Jibri is able to get himself back on his feet. But Miona would rather be seeing New York and LA than having a wedding on the prairie and living like a 50-year-old.

As Jibri and Miona deal with the wedding blues on 90 Day Fiancé, fans are discussing Miona's changing looks. Several older photos of her have been circulating online in which she looks nothing like the Miona on Instagram. Instagram blogger @90daythemelanatedway shared before and after photos of Miona, which show her with lighter skin and sleek hair. In her recent photos, Miona sports a tanned complexion and tight curls, and as some fans have noticed, thicker lips. Fans have started to call out Miona for blackfishing, which is a term used when a white person tries to make themselves look black.

A deleted comment from Miona’s Instagram shows her responding to someone asking if it is her real skin tone since Serbia is a European country. Miona’s controversial reply to them is, “Let them wonder it keeps me relevant! It wouldn’t be fun if I solve the mystery.” Still, Miona also told the fan that she’s not trying to be something she’s not. As more and more fans commented that Miona “seems more like she’s cosplaying a Kardashian who is Blackfishing…sigh” or “So 90 day isn’t even doing background checks anymore?” on the internet, Miona did post a statement confirming that she’s from Serbia. But Miona explained that her family’s roots are both Middle Eastern and Mexican, as per a DNA test.

Miona wants to represent herself as Serbian because she considers that to be a culture. Still, fans are not convinced by Miona’s explanation, as they feel it missed the point entirely. Miona didn’t address her drastic change in skin color and the fact that she wears wigs when she was defending traditional Serbian hairstyles. Fans feel there’s nothing wrong with Miona being proud of her culture, but her ignoring the accusations about blackfishing in her statement is what they find offensive. There’s more of Miona left to see on 90 Day Fiancé, so perhaps in the future she will give relevant answers about her makeover to fans who expect it.
