On 90 Day Fiancé, many fans find Mike and Natalie to be an infuriating couple, however, Mike’s relationship with his mom Trish has many viewers siding with Natalie. It’s one thing to have a close relationship with a parent, but fans think Mike has taken it to the extreme and is showing more love to his mom than he is to his wife. Mike’s behavior has definitely been problematic, and fans are happy to drag him across the coals for his mama's-boy vibes.
This season on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, Mike and Natalie traveled to Oklahoma to stay with Mike’s mom for Thanksgiving. But things did not go well between Trish and Natalie. It’s no secret to anyone, including Natalie, that Trish didn’t want her son to marry the Ukrainian, and she didn’t exactly give Natalie a warm welcome. Even worse, Mike teamed up with Trish to gaslight Natalie to undermine her feelings of being disrespected. Fans haven’t always been on Natalie’s side, but Mike’s behavior is giving them the heebie-jeebies.
“He is way sweeter to his ‘momma’ than he has ever been to Natalie,” a fan said on Reddit, as viewers discussed Mike’s sometimes-disturbing relationship with his mom. One commenter felt their relationship bordered on “emotional incest,” and many agreed that whoever Mike ends up with is likely to always come second to Trish. Some fans took particular issue with a scene when Mike gave an emotional goodbye to Trish at the airport while Natalie breezed on through security.
It seems that viewers wouldn’t be so creeped out by Mike’s relationship with his mom if he didn’t team up with Trish to abuse and bully Natalie. “He ganged up with his mother against Natalie. What an awful husband,” another fan commented. It’s great that Mike is close with his mom, but he’s also married to Natalie. She deserves his support as much as Trish does, and Mike should be sticking up for his wife, especially because Natalie has no one else.
There’s a lot about Natalie that’s easy and reasonable to criticize, but 90 Day Fiancé fans are beginning to see that Mike could be the most problematic element in their relationship. Mike and Trish certainly have a unique relationship, and the way they treat Natalie is rubbing viewers the wrong way. Natalie is disgusted by Mike’s actions around Trish, and now fans are seeing the dysfunction as well. If Mike wants to be in a relationship that works, he’ll have to learn to prioritize his partner over his mother.
