Numerous 90 Day Fiancé franchise cast members have tried and failed to persuade their partners to become stepparents to their kids, but 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days newcomer Mike Berk has wholeheartedly accepted the role of stepfather to the enormous praise of viewers. Kindhearted American Mike was devastated when his Colombian partner Ximena Morales Cuellar admitted to him that she had electively been sterilized following two difficult births. Mike was initially heartbroken to realize that meant he couldn't have a child with Ximena, though viewers were touched with how openly he accepted being a stepfather to Ximena's sons Harold and Juan.
Before The 90 Days season 5 viewers have so far declared Mike their favorite cast member of the season. The American man is the rare cast member who is so far not harboring a secret or lie when it comes to his romance. Mike already demonstrated in New York that he cares for his elderly grandfather, and he was quick to accept Harold and Juan as his own as he lavished them with gifts and joy upon their first meeting. However, many viewers are not happy with Ximena. Fans distrust the single mother, as it appears she is simply using Mike for his lavish gifts, financial support, and potentially a green card. However, viewers are completely backing Mike especially when he told Ximena that raising her two sons with her would fulfill the role of becoming a father that Mike has always hoped for.

Many commenters declared Mike the ultimate catch and believe that he can land someone who reciprocates his feelings more than Ximena. "The dating pool for Mike has been exponentially expanded because so many women realize he exists now. A kind hearted goofy guy with no kids who wants a wife and family?" one top commenter wrote. Many viewers were floored by how genuine and kind Mike appears. "I genuinely feel so bad for this guy, she is takin’ him on a ride and he’s going to be flat-out heartbroken soon enough," another fan wrote.
While Mike's words touched many viewers, few fans are trusting Ximena and instead believe she is taking advantage of Mike. The single mother has been accused of being manipulative and deceitful, which led to many viewers urging Mike to leave her before a proposal and marriage. While viewers were deeply touched by Mike's response to being a stepfather, many fans were shocked by Ximena's actions. Ximena waited until she was intimate with Mike to reveal that she couldn't have children even though she understood how important having kids is to Mike. Furthermore, when Mike declared he was upset with Ximena for withholding that knowledge, she told him that he couldn't just abandon her boys after he met them. Viewers believe Ximena was grossly irresponsible, as she manipulated Mike and her own children into trying to rope Mike into the relationship with her under false pretenses.
