In the past, fans have rallied around 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? star Michael Ilesanmi because of the awful way his wife Angela Deem treats him, but it seems their sympathy for him may have run out. Many viewers have suspected Michael is using Angela for a green card, though they don’t blame him too much because most fans can’t stand Angela in the first place. However, as Michael continues to stand by his wife, many fans are losing respect for him.
Michael and Angela’s relationship has seen a lot of highs and lows, but this season on Happily Ever After? they have been in a particularly bad place. Recently, Angela and Michael got into a dramatic fight over the phone and at one point, Michael was worried Angela was considering divorce. But even though she met with her lawyer, Angela and Michael have reconciled and in the latest episode had a cringey virtual date that had viewers scrambling for the remote.
Many fans who originally took Michael’s side are now saying he doesn’t deserve sympathy because he puts up with and enables Angela’s bad behavior. “He actually likes Angela despite (or maybe because of) her trashy, disgusting ways and that makes him trash too,” a fan commented on Reddit. Some fans believe that Michael is with Angela for a green card, but argued that “no green card is worth your dignity.” Other commenters pointed out that Michael has cheated on Angela, taken money from her and say “he has no one to blame but himself for selling out.”
However, there were some fans who thought that Michael’s tolerance of Angela went deeper than just wanting a green card. They brought up the sunk cost fallacy, and argued that maybe Michael feels he’s invested so much time and energy into the relationship that he keeps holding out in hopes that things will eventually get better. There were also many fans who disputed the claim that Michael is as trashy as Angela, commenting, “Trashy? Sure, he wanted her for her boobs. As bad as her? Not by a long shot.”
It can be hard not to feel at least a little sorry for Michael when watching 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, but fans’ sympathy appears to be drying up. Many feel at this point that Michael doesn’t really love Angela, so the fact that he continues to stay with her and take her abuse is rubbing many fans the wrong way. No matter what Michael’s motivations are for being with Angela—whether for love or a green card—it’s time for him cut and run.
