For years, 90 Day Fiancé fans have been begging Michael Ilesanmi to stand up to his wife, Angela Deem, but some viewers now believe that he should do what she wants. As fans recently witnessed, when Michael finally tried to assert himself by keeping his Instagram account up, against Angela’s wishes, it almost ended the marriage. Ultimately, Michael gave into his wife, as almost everyone knew he would. The result was that Angela got what she wanted (as she always does), and Michael endured terrible abuse and bullying for nothing. If Michael had a chance of winning a fight with Angela, then standing up to her would be worth it. However, he doesn’t, so it’s not.

Every time that Michael listens to his friends, whom Angela mockingly calls, “the goofballs” on the show, he ends up dealing with Angela’s wrath, and still never gets what he wants. Therefore, he needs to accept that he will never win an argument with Angela (and be the submissive spouse that he originally wanted her to be), or just call it quits. Angela is who she is, and she is never going to change. Trying to fight her only brings both of them heartache. So, if Michael is unable to live without Angela, as seems to be the case, then he needs to resign himself to taking her orders, in order to save both of them a lot of misery. Obviously, the ideal path for Michael would be to leave the abusive relationship with Angela behind. However, if he simply cannot do that for whatever reason, his next best choice is to let his wife call the shots.

Angela Deem from 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After season 7

On a 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? episode, which aired on November 22, Michael tried to put his foot down again, attempting to forbid Angela from going to Canada to visit her TikTok duet partner and recent crush, Billy. According to In Touch Weekly, Angela met Billy online, when she asked the stripper-turned-artist to create a painting for Michael. They developed a platonic friendship, but Angela admitted during a couple’s therapy session on last week’s episode that she had a crush on Billy. As 90 Day Fiancé fans know all too well, if the tables were turned, Michael would not be allowed to text with another woman, much less hop on a plane and see that female. However, Angela told Michael that if he didn’t like it, he could leave. Based on the previews for next week’s episode, that is exactly what Michael has chosen to do. However, based on past behavior, it is unlikely that he will follow through.

No one deserves to be in an abusive relationship, but Michael is a grown man who can make his own decisions. The dynamic between Michael and Angela is very difficult to understand. At first, viewers thought he was using the older woman to come to America. However, considering how long the 34-year-old Nigerian has hung in there, there has to be more to it than that. If Michael just wanted a Green Card, he could have cut his losses, and found a much easier relationship years ago.

There are definitely times when 90 Day Fiancé fans can clearly see the love between these mismatched spouses, especially when they are laughing and having fun together. Michael has declared his love for Angela over and over, and despite the troubled nature of their interactions, he seems to be sincere. Something about her must make him happy more than it makes him miserable. However, if Michael wants to stay with Angela, and enjoy any type of peace and harmony, he has stop trying to, “be the man,” and just accept things for what they are.
