Memphis Smith has slammed critics commenting on her and Hamza Moknii disrespecting his mother Hayet on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days by implying that the show is edited in a certain way. With single mom Memphis taking a leap of faith and flying to Tunisia to marry her boyfriend Hamza who she’s never even met, a lot of flak has come her way. Michigan resident Memphis was compared to Brittany Banks who infamously disregarded her fiancé Yazan Abu Horira’s culture on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way from the moment she introduced herself. And Memphis also happened to prove 90 Day Fiancé viewers right on episode 4 when she had “sexy time” with Hamza in his family home against his mom’s wishes.
The 34-year-old Memphis found her ideal man in Hamza, 28, after having been through a traumatic past that includes an unstable childhood, failed relationships, and divorce, to begin with. Hamza, although younger, gave Memphis the stability and honesty she craved, which is why she decided to go straight to marriage and not get engaged to get him back with her to the States. But Hamza revealed he’d not been truthful with Memphis and had not told her about his “old-fashioned” mom and her beliefs in no sex until marriage. Due to her own insecurities, Memphis believed that she should make sure she’s compatible in bed with Hamza before being wholly sure of making him her husband. Upon reaching his home, Memphis insisted on Hamza sleeping with her and not on the couch. And fans watched Hamza’s mother look crestfallen when she discovered her son in Memphis’ bed the next morning.
Fans blasted Memphis for thinking that sex is the dealbreaker in a relationship and disobeying Hayet’s rules. They also bashed Hamza for not booking a hotel room if he was so desperate for his “sexy time.” Some of these comments seem to have seeped into Memphis’s Instagram which is why she posted a story addressing them. “I don’t care if I get in trouble,” wrote Memphis. She added, “all of you people who watch this show should understand by now that everything is not always as it seems.” Memphis claimed, "what is pictures is most of the time not reality!”
But Memphis didn’t stop there. She also questioned if anyone has ever given a thought about things on the show being “taken out of context or edited in a certain way.” Memphis angrily asked her haters to go “complain on a blog site" if they feel the need to do so. Memphis warned them that they will be blocked upon leaving any rude comments on her personal page.
This certainly isn’t the first time that a 90 Day Fiancé cast member has accused the show of having heavily edited scenes or it being scripted. One time Deavan Clegg had noted that “editing can make things look more dramatized." She'd replied to a fan with, “You know the show is scripted right?” during her rough relationship patch with ex Jihoon Lee. Memphis too appears to have had enough after being called rude for first sleeping with Hamza and then calling him out over their “sexy time” being “pretty fast” in a preview for 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days episode 5. Still, things are just getting started in Memphis and Hamza’s relationship. Many fans do think that Memphis and Hamza make a great couple, but Hamza’s mom disapproving of their “sexy time” might be their smallest worry if the promos are anything to go by.
