On a recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé, newcomer Kobe Blaise met his fiancé, Emily Bieberly, for the first time after she’s given birth and made a comment about her weight that crossed the line. When Emily worked as an English teacher in China, she met the man that changed her life. A one-night stand quickly turned into an engagement, followed by a pregnancy. After spending two weeks together, the duo parted ways and applied for their K-1 visa. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Kobe and Emily have been apart for almost two years.

This meant Emily stayed in Salina, Kansas, with her parents and gave birth to their son, Cobin. Now Emily's son, Cobin is 17 months old and Kobe is meeting him for the first time. As excited as the 90 Day Fiancé season 9 star is to finally reunite with her fiancé, she’s concerned about her weight gain. According to Emily, she used to work out regularly and their physical connection was insatiable, but now she has a “mom bod.” Emily grew anxious as she planned to surprise Kobe with an opportunity to “recreate their love life” before meeting Cobin. Alas, her worst fears came true when Kobe met her at the airport.

After a tearful welcome, Kobe told the cameras that Emily looked “different” and that she “gained weight.” Emily was visibly appalled as she stared blankly at the cameras, and many viewers felt the same. 90 Day Fiancé cast member Emily knew Kobe wouldn’t be enthusiastic about her weight gain and he proved her right. Considering Emily recently gave birth and hasn’t been able to resume her previous exercise-fueled lifestyle, it’s an incredibly insensitive thing to say. Not to mention, viewers would think that after having over 17 months of separation, Kobe would be more excited to see his fiancé.

Kobe later attempted to explain what he meant by the comment and blamed the cultural difference for the phrasing. According to Kobe, it was a mere observation after the long separation. While Emily appears to be more understanding and claims to not have taken offense, viewers are less accepting. Especially since Kobe was reluctant to indulge in their “date night,” though he claimed that was more due to his excitement to meet his son for the first time.

Newcomers to the 90 Day Fiancé franchise Emily and Kobe appear to be an unlikely duo. 90 Day Fiancé has proven time and again that the combination of their young ages, child, and cultural differences will lead to their downfall. Kobe and Emily already appear to be along that path as they argued about finances and she demanded a new ring after he arrived. However, viewers are already finding the new season to be deficient and are wondering if this 90 Day Fiancé couple will remain lackluster.
