Usman Umar and Kim Menzies are taking the next big step towards marriage on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?. The couple has quarreled on the TLC reality show over relationship difficulties, including Usman's stance towards taking multiple wives. He originally appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days with his ex-wife Lisa Hamme before meeting Kim and joining the cast of Happily Ever After. Certain disparities in his attitudes towards relationships with Kim and Lisa have left fans baffled and wondering if Kim and Usman will be able to resolve their difficulties and stay together.
A Happily Ever After preview clip, shared by ET, showed the full proposal that Kim created for Usman. Kim, a spa receptionist and Desert Storm veteran, prepared an ornate setting, complete with streamers and rose petals, to surprise her would-be fiancé, a scene he responded to with surprise and joyous profanity. With surprisingly little fanfare, aside from noting that she created the decorations herself, Kim asked Usman whether he would marry her. Usman responded by saying, "If marrying you is what would make you happy in this life, I'm ready to marry you, I'm telling you."

Usman's interview segment following the proposal told a more complicated story. As Kim attempted to put an ill-fitted ring on Usman, he stated that "when someone goes down on her knee, it's not my culture, but it's beautiful. She's trying to show how much she loves me." However, his next thought was, "I have to accept it." Kim and Usman's relationship has spanned over two years, and the natural end game for most couples on 90 Day Fiancé would be marriage. Although Usman said that the effort Kim put into the decorations and the gesture of the proposal made him feel "loved," he also said that this proposal is in spite of "anything that's going to happen," moving to hedge any commitment before it has begun.
90 Day Fiancé fans have made their distaste for Kim known, but her adoration for Usman has been on full display throughout their time on TLC. Their relationship has certain characteristics in common with Usman's marriage to Lisa, namely the significant age gap between the two. But in many ways, this relationship seems like an evolution. Usman has been a popular draw to each of the 90 Day Fiancé series in which he has appeared, first garnering attention as his musical alter-ego Sojaboy and consistently grabbing the spotlight with his ostentatious demeanor. An extended stay in the 90 Day Fiancé universe has allowed him to show more sides of himself, and it is possible that this marriage to Kim will allow him to demonstrate a more mature Usman.
Of course, 90 Day Fiancé fans have been down this road before. It does not take a long memory to be intimate with the details of Usman's marriage to Baby Girl Lisa and every piece of dirty laundry they aired before the cameras. Astute fans have pointed to signs that Usman is not fully committed to Kim and only using this relationship as a continued springboard to fame. His insistence on taking a second wife also points to a non-committal attitude towards this marriage and joining Kim in America rather than remaining in Nigeria. There is no doubt that fans will see every little detail of what comes next on one of the 90 Day Fiancé series, but for now, they can only speculate as to where Kim's joyous moment will lead the couple.
