While Armando Rubio from 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way finally got his dad to show his support, Kenneth Niedermeier not being empathetic towards Armando Sr. and his struggles has irked fans. Episode 5 of the 90 Day Fiancé spinoff saw Armando having his first serious conversation with his dad, and the patriarch revealing that he was proud of his son. Armando Sr. also confessed that he’ll try to get to know Kenny better and also gifted Cassidy Niedermeier a souvenir to show his acceptance. However, Armando’s father is unsure of whether he’ll attend the wedding, which made Kenny feel that the chat was basically futile.
Armando Sr., who’s never expressed his emotions or feelings before, opened up to Armando and gave the son what he wanted to since a long time. However, when Armando revealed that Kenny has proposed to him, his dad seemed hesitant about making it to the wedding and asked for time to think about it. On Sunday’s episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Kenny made Armando understand that his father has still not accepted him fully. While Armando insisted that everybody’s process is different, Kenny told the cameras that he was disappointed because the father did not commit to coming to the wedding.
St. Petersburg resident Kenny accepted that his trying to tell Armando that Armando Sr. “kinda said no” was him being a wet blanket and ruining the happiness of the conversation for his partner. After watching Kenny being a buzzkill, 90 Day Fiancé fans took to the internet to make him understand why he should cut Armando Sr. some slack. “Can we get at least one scene where Kenny is content with he progress Armando’s dad is making?” posted Twitter user @TodWGreen1. Another TLC viewer @AnonRobot001622 wrote “Kenny is annoying me” while adding that they think he needs to give Armando’s family time to process. Meanwhile, @TeNaeluvsU observed “Kenny just screams privileged entitled white man to me,” and a reply to it but @JaneNelson16 noted that Kenny often talks to Armando like his child.
The real reason why Armando’s family is having a hard time accepting his and Kenny’s relationship, although they find nothing wrong in the American man, was revealed by the Rubio family to Cass. Armando’s mom Virginia and sister Deborah confessed that it’s hard because he was married to a woman previously. Deborah explained that just like Cass has never seen her dad with a woman, they’ve never seen Armando with a man. And while it was difficult for them to wrap their heads around the development, Armando’s sister has admitted that they’re getting there.
Amid this drama, Kenny being ignorant of the progress that Armando’s family is making is earning him a bad reputation amongst some 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans. They’re starting to wonder if Kenny is someone who wants the world to revolve around him and is taking Armando’s vulnerability for granted. The fact that Kenny hasn’t learned Armando’s language yet has also been called out often. Fans are now keeping their fingers crossed to see Kenny making progress as well by understanding Armando’s family and cultural values better rather than being pushy and wanting things to go his way.
