Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa of 90 Day Fiance are working to repair their marriage, but viewers think they shouldn't bother. The two return for the latest season of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, which premiered on Sunday. Though only one of many dysfunctional couples from the franchise, this has brought them back to the forefront of fans' minds. They also appeared on season 5 of the spin-off, and Kalani previously claimed Happily Ever After made Asuelu better. Viewers certainly don't see it that way.
Kalani and Asuelu met when she was vacationing in Samoa, as he worked at the resort where she stayed. Asuelu followed her and moved to the United States. The relationship was, to put it mildly, rocky. The arrival of their first child didn't help. They also intensely clashed with one another's families. At one point, Asuelu's sister Tammy even accused Kalani of brainwashing him. As intense as the feuding was, viewers largely agreed with the in-laws' disapproval of the marriage. Season 6 of Happily Ever After shows the couple house hunting, and considering a third child. Fans are cringing at these developments.
On Reddit, a fan stated, "Kalani all but said that they are basically just staying together for the kids at this point, they really should just get divorced." Many were also aghast at their plans to get a mortgage. Asuelu rationalized that living with his in-laws was putting extra strain on the marriage, and a house of their own would make the family happier. But with a marriage this dysfunctional, that may be unlikely. Not to mention, a major financial commitment seems ill-advised. Especially since, as the Redditors pointed out, they could rent a place instead. "I mean that's just exactly what their marriage needs, debt," a user wrote sarcastically. Another fan replied, "Not to mention that neither of them have any marketable skills that will allow them to get a job that pays a mortgage. The TLC money is not going to last forever."
A lot of viewers believe they never should've married to begin with. "When Asuelu said they’d been having a ‘rough patch’ from the beginning. If the whole thing is rough it’s not a patch, honey," one cracked. Their fighting has always been alarming. Kalani revealed Asuelu would block her during arguments. Many fans also expressed their concern for how the constant fighting impacts their two young children. One Redditor noted, "research shows that kids are much more affected by the fighting and problems they see between their parents pre-divorce than by the divorce." Kalani and Asuelu, unfortunately, believe staying together is better for their kids than splitting up.
90 Day Fiance fans will have to keep tuning in to see if things between the spouses improve. But this season of Happily Ever After is not off to a great start.
