Certain 90 Day Fiance fans believe that many mothers from New Orleans are protective of their children and take care of their daughters-in-law as their own daughters, which could possibly explain Jovi Dufren's dynamic with his mother Gwen. In the latest episode of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After, Yara Zaya acted like Gwen was being overly protective of Jovi. Yara called her mother-in-law a headache and said that Jovi "lives up in her a**." Jovi wanted Yara and Mylah to stay at his mother's house because there was supposed to be a storm in Downtown New Orleans.

After the storm passed, Yara wanted to go back to her house, but Gwen insisted that Yara should stay with her given that Mylah is still really small. The new mommy wanted her own space, so she ignored Gwen's insistence and returned to her house. However, she then caught COVID-19. Yara was sick and weak, so she reluctantly had to go back to her in-laws' house to get some assistance. While many 90 Day Fiance fans think that Yara should have never left Gwen's house, others believe that Jovi is way too attached to his mother.

A fan said that Jovi Dufren and his mother Gwen's relationship is common between mother-son duos from New Orleans, Louisiana, and that Yara is possibly just overreacting. The fan whose husband is from NOLA explained in a Reddit thread (included below): "I get how Yara could be kind of weirded out by his mom because it took me some time getting used to my husband's mother's involvement." According to this Redditor, mothers from New Orleans are usually very nurturing. They typically try to take care of many people on their block, worry about everyone, and look out for their friends and family members. This original poster on Reddit said that mothers from the New Orleans region might come across as overbearing, but they are just caring and nurturing.

Moreover, many 90 Day Fiance fans argued that Yara isn't right to say that Jovi is a mama's boy, as they perceive Jovi as being quite mature and independent. He was living alone in his flat before Yara arrived in the United States. Besides, Gwen doesn't interfere in the couple's personal matters. She respects boundaries and only spoke when she thought it was necessary. A fan said, "Yara needs to let go of her pride and accept she needs help until she becomes more familiar with living in New Orleans."

Another fan commented, "Cajuns are very family-oriented and it's not in a co-dependency type of way." Some Redditors also think that  Yara was probably dealing with postpartum depression after giving birth to Mylah. Perhaps, that's why she looked sad and sometimes cranky with everyone around her. Many viewers are still thankful that Jovi and Gwen's relationship is not as bizarre as other 90 Day Fiance mother duos. Earlier, Colt and Debbie Johnson, as well as Mike and Trish, featured very tight mother-son dynamics.
