Many 90 Day Fiancé franchise parents have been slammed by viewers, and Jibri Bell’s mother, Mahala Bach, is the newest franchise parent to be called out. Mahala has quickly established herself as a monster of a mother-in-law and a hypocrite due to her treatment of Jibri’s partner, Miona Bell. This has caused many 90 Day Fiancé fans to call Mahala out for her hypocritical and sexist behavior.
Jibri was introduced to viewers as an eccentric man from Rapid City, South Dakota. The U.S native enjoys dressing in colorful and quirky clothing to help him stand out in his conservative small town. Jibri’s Serbian fiancé Miona also has a style of her own, as she enjoys wearing crop tops, always having her makeup done, and lengthy hair extensions. Mahala controversially called Miona out for wearing revealing outfits and told Miona that people wouldn’t think she was smart if she wore revealing clothing. She even asked Miona to dress more conservatively in her home.
Reddit user chemkay called Mahala out by stating, “Mahala's entire existence is a paradox.” Many 90 Day Fiancé viewers were stunned that Mahala works as a therapist but told Miona that she wouldn't be seen as intelligent based on her appearance, which is a concept that many viewers believe is misogynistic and dated. “If she has the position that a crop top will cause people not to think someone is smart, (which is ridiculous) why doesn’t she use the same thinking on her son? … It seems she’s just targeting the woman bc of what she perceives as someone being sexually appealing. It’s a terrible way to think, especially for a therapist,” Reddit user Choosepeace commented.
Many commenters agreed that Mahala’s views about Miona and her clothes were out of line, especially since she appears to embrace 90 Day Fiancé Jibri's eccentricity and even reveals her own quirky side through her unique choice of glasses. Multiple commenters called Mahala out for being jealous of Miona since Mahala is concerned that her husband will stare at her a little too long. “This lady just doesn’t want her man checking out the young chick. That’s not her fault that’s his,” Reddit user According-Attempt883 wrote. Many commenters were in agreement that Mahala had completely overstepped boundaries by equating what someone wears to intelligence level.
Even though Mahala has been slammed by 90 Day Fiancé fans, they are urging Jibri to move out of his family home. Though Miona’s dream of immediately moving to Los Angeles has been slammed for being unrealistic, given her and Jibri’s financial state, viewers hope the 90 Day Fiancé couple will get a place of their own in a more affordable city. It is clear that Jibri and Miona can't live properly in Mahala’s home; however, some 90 Day Fiancé fans believe that the entire plot line is scripted for views.
