While 90 Day Fiancé star Hamza Moknii’s mother Hayet has so far been a fan-favorite, her odd behavior with Memphis Sandoval has not gone down well. A divorcee and mom of two, Memphis met Hamza from Tunisia after a long spell of being single and disappointed in men. Despite not knowing Hamza well, Memphis decided they should get married two weeks after meeting face-to-face. However, Memphis has discovered a new lie that Hamza told her with each new episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. Perhaps most notably, Hamza lied to Memphis about his real age.
It was in a casual conversation with Hamza’s sister Rawia that Memphis found out the man she’s about to marry is 26 years old and not 28 as he’d told her previously. In a state of shock, Memphis confronted Hamza who didn’t seem to take her seriously. He revealed he lied to look mature to Memphis, who’s eight years older than him. As Memphis wondered what else Hamza had lied to her about, she also asked for his HVAC diploma, which fortunately for Hamza, wasn’t a lie like his age. He previously dropped a bombshell on Memphis when she found out they weren't supposed to share a bed in Hayet's house.
Though Hamza’s mom was disappointed in the couple's actions in the bedroom, she laughed off her son hiding how old he really is from his future wife. Hayet accused Memphis of exaggerating and claimed Hamza lying is “not so serious and heavy for her to be angry like this.” A Reddit thread by life_is_loud gained popularity for calling out Hamza's mom and her “horrible” statement. The user wondered how Hayet would have reacted if it was Memphis who had been the one lying and “not her sheltered and immature son?” A 90 Day Fiancé viewer on Twitter, TheRealYummyLuv, posted, “Hamza mom talking bout her reaction was a bit much but girl you tripping over Memphis divorce.”
Meanwhile, another Twitter user, ujjjunna, thought that “Hamza's mom needs to stop making excuses for him.” Viewers have already seen that Hamza is a man-child who can’t even cook or clean without his mom’s help. He has referred to himself as a “baby” during his 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days debut and no doubt will become Memphis’ third child of sorts when she marries him and brings him to the U.S. It’s easy to see that Hayet is okay with excusing whatever mistakes her son makes, just like she eventually ignored the “sexy time” he secretly had with Memphis. Viewers have seen such mothers before on 90 Day Fiancé, including Debbie Johnson and Trish Youngquist, and they almost always bring trouble into the relationship.
Hamza lying about his age for months and months is a major red flag, and Memphis needs to watch out for the other things he may have tricked her into believing. Since his mother does not seem to think lying is a big deal, it stands to reason he could be keeping more things from Memphis. At the very least, Hayet is being rightfully called out for belittling Memphis' concerns. With the likelihood of Hamza breaking her trust again, 90 Day Fiancé viewers want Memphis to reconsider this relationship by thinking long and hard about it.
