Fan-favorite mother on 90 Day Fiancé, Gwen Eymard, spoke out against the hate she has received after raising money for Hurricane Ida relief in her home state. Gwen stood out to viewers on 90 Day Fiancé season 8 and later on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? for her support of son Jovi Dufren and his wife Yara Zaya. The mother and her family are New Orleans area natives and unfortunately experienced the worst of the most recent storm in the bayou. While Jovi and Yara are making their way back home from their evacuation to Dallas, Gwen is hard at work restoring her home and helping her neighbors.
Gwen has been keeping fans updated about her family's well-being since their evacuation from Hurricane Ida. "We made it to our safe place and chose to have a couple margaritas to ease the anxiety," Gwen wrote on Instagram before the hurricane made landfall. Since the storm's destruction, Gwen has been frequently posting images of flooding and storm damage to raise awareness about her community's turmoil. "Our town needs everything," Gwen captioned a post of her neighborhood nearly underwater. Gwen started a GoFundMe campaign to be part of relief efforts in her area. The successful campaign has raised over $14,000 so far, but some hurled negativity Gwen's way about her efforts to raise money.
Gwen revealed in an IG video she has gotten hate messages due to the nature of her fundraiser. Some followers, Gwen said, claimed they refuse to give assistance if Gwen and her family willingly live in hurricane-prone Louisiana. "That's okay, I don't need your money; I don't want your money," Gwen said while revealing the "ugly" messages she received. "I want for people with good hearts to give to the babies that we have here that don't have any milk or any diapers and the mamas that are doing their best to feed their toddlers." Gwen turned to other states' natural disasters. "Everybody has something," Gwen said. "This is home for us. It is what it is."
Gwen went on to say she wasn't asking for money for herself. The reality star explained the GoFundMe funds haven't been tapped yet; the relief items she has donated so far have come out of her own pocket. "This is really tough," Gwen continued, shedding tears. "I've lived here all my life; I've never, ever, ever seen anything like this." Gwen revealed some of her family members haven't been able to return home or lost their homes due to the hurricane. Despite the natural disaster, Gwen said she's not leaving her hometown. Jovi's mother vowed to continue her efforts to help her community and signed off the video by thanking those who donated.
Viewers praised Gwen's kindness on 90 Day Fiancé, and it's clear the cajun mother's compassion for others is genuine by her latest efforts to help out her neighbors. Gwen and her husband Monty were lucky that their home only sustained partial damage. They're now doing their part to give back to those who endured worse. True fans are backing Gwen and her service to Hurricane Ida victims.
