These claims of mental abuse from Fernanda first started back on June 20th, when she released a video titled "My truth." In that video, she detailed the incidents of what started out as mental and verbal abuse that had turned physical. Jonathan claims that the allegations were completely fabricated by Fernanda as a plot to leave him while still being able to stay in the US According to him, there was no abuse whatsoever and he further claims that he never laid a finger on Fernanda. According to AfterBuzz TV, Jonathan went on to say that Fernanda got the idea to claim she was abused from a few conversations she had. She was told about the Violence Against Women Act while talking to some lawyers, which grants the victim a green card for those who have suffered cruelty or abuse from a US citizen. According to Jonathan, she was first inspired to investigate when she learned at a party they were both attending that claiming she was abused could help keep her in the country. Jonathan even went on to say that Fernanda acknowledged and even joked about this by saying "See babe? I don’t need you."

Fernanda had something to say about these allegations while speaking with AfterBuzz TV, claiming the statements made by Jonathan are completely untrue. She went on to say that she’s attempted to remain private about the events surrounding the abuse scandal and just wants it all to be over with so she can move on with her life. Fernanda continued, saying that Jonathan is making great efforts to ruin, not only her reputation but her financial well-being. Having been split since December of 2018 and filing for divorce the following Summer, the two are still legally married. Yet, Jonathan has withdrawn his affidavit for support. On the topic of finances, Jonathan claims that he put down more than his fair share. The real estate agent has said to have given her nearly $20,000 for his bride to start her own business, but Fernanda quickly lost interest in the idea, wasting the money. On top of that, Jonathan says that he paid for her rent, modeling career, and college funds. Outside sources claim there was trouble from the start when Jonathan was shocked to find Fernanda "sexting" with other women.

Fernanda is slated to speak at an upcoming event as a "domestic abuse survivor." The event is regarding trauma for victims of emotional and physical abuse. Jonathan is making no efforts to stop her from telling her side of the story but encourages people to listen to his.
