Natalie Mordovtseva is often on the receiving end of criticism from 90 Day Fiancé fans, but her recent outburst about Russian dolls has earned her a surprising amount of support. Since her debut on 90 Day Fiancé season 7, Natalie developed a reputation for erratic behavior. Though there were some who felt it was her ex-husband Mike Youngquist who was driving her crazy, the bulk of fans blamed Natalie for her failed marriage. But Natalie has happily moved on from her relationship with Mike and is now living in Florida and has appeared on multiple seasons of 90 Day:The Single Life.

On the popular spin-off series, Natalie is dating a man named Josh Weinstein—or at least she thinks she is. In reality, Natalie has only been on a few dates with Josh, who understandably wants to let their relationship develop a little more before they decide to be exclusive. But Natalie is frustrated by what she sees as indecision, and in a recent episode of The Single Life, Natalie questioned Josh’s friends about him. However, Natalie got extremely offended when one of Josh’s female friends tried to make an analogy about Russian Matryoshka dolls, and Natalie seemingly misunderstood. “I’m not Russian,” Natalie asserted, as the woman hastily tried to clarify what she meant.

Clearly Natalie was very upset because it seems she thought the woman was calling her Russian, but some viewers thought she overreacted. “Natalie got mad it's like the girl called her a hoe!!” Redditor bosaddam12 said in a post. Though there were others who agreed, accusing Natalie of jumping to conclusions, most of the commenters surprisingly came to Natalie’s defense. “You may not like Natalie,” another 90 Day Fiancé fan said, “but considering current events and the history between Russia and Ukraine, this is a pretty understandable reaction.” A lot of commenters referenced Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine as a reason why Natalie would be particularly sensitive about the topic.

90 Day Fiancé Fans Don’t Usually Have Natalie’s Back

Natalie is often the subject of intense criticism from 90 Day Fans who have even dubbed her “Nutalie.” However, this is one time when they actually understand where she’s coming from. “I get people hate Natalie but this is one big stretch,” one Redditor commented in the thread, as most fans brought up the current social climate between Russia and Ukraine and said that viewing Natalie’s reaction as excessive demonstrated ignorance. “Is it just me or is this post and many of the comments coming across as Blind American Privilege,” another user questioned. The outpouring of support for Natalie is encouraging, though the 90 Day Fiancé star shouldn’t get too used to it.

In reality, both sides of the situation were valid. Natalie was understandably having a strong reaction after misinterpreting the Russian dolls comment due to her language barrier. At the same time, Josh’s friend didn’t mean any offense, and was simply using the dolls as an analogy. This is an example of a true misunderstanding with no ill-intent from either side. 90 Day Fiancé fans are not always this understanding, but it’s good to see them give Natalie credit when it’s due.
