Fans are up in arms against Marlene Goldstone again, this time for a tweet featuring her and Loren Brovarnik on the 90 Day Fiancé official Twitter page. Loren and her husband, Alexei Brovarnik, first appeared on 90 Day Fiancé season 3. Thanks to their unproblematic nature, they quickly became fan favorites. That favor soon turned into a spin-off show, Loren & Alexei: After the 90 Days. The biggest source of drama on the show thus far has been the relationship between Loren and her mother, Marlene. Recent episodes have followed the baby shower storyline. During a recent trip to Israel, 90 Day Fiancé’s Loren Brovarnik suggested their family might relocate to the country permanently for the kid’s sake. Marlene and her other daughter, Rebecca Goldstone, turned sour at the thought and broke off communication with the Brovarnik family. Therefore, they did not RSVP to Loren’s baby shower. Loren was surprised and rather angry to see them show up anyway.Related: 90 Day Fiancé: Why Loren’s Mom Marlene Spoiled Baby Shower Storyline

The Baffling Follow-up Tweet From 90 Day Fiancé

On February 13, 2023, the 90 Day Fiancé Twitter account posted a gif of Loren and Marlene, with the latter saying, “We are the same!” The tweet was captioned with “Nice to see these two finally make up #LorenAndAlexei.” The replies were not on board, challenging the idea of Loren and Marlene being similar. Indeed, Loren has proven to be a great mom, and the replies pointed out how Marlene was quite the opposite, saying, “I still don’t like her mom. She is nasty! How did Loren turn out so sweet?” and “Loren is kind and forgiving, Mom is controlling and manipulative.”

TLC Might Be Trying To Rile Up 90 Day Fiancé Fans

Now, the producers of After the 90 Days surely are not clueless; they know what people think of Marlene, which begs the question of why the official Twitter page would post something like this. The most likely explanation is that this was a purposeful bid for online engagement. Even within a reality show, producers and editors make it easy to love the heroes and love to hate the villains. With Loren and Alexei’s spin-off becoming boring and predictable, it makes sense that the show would cash in on what works, and that is Marlene the drama queen. That strategy would extend beyond the show itself, including to socials.

To TLC’s credit, their social media strategy worked. The tweet has more views and comments than almost all the other posts surrounding it. The 90 Day Fiancé spin-off was fishing for engagement, and it worked out in the network's favor. The viewers fell for it, and it made the show more engaging. Part of the appeal of reality TV is getting invested in the lives of real people, just like 90 Day Fiancé's Loren.
