Though 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 7 doesn’t premiere until August 28, many 90 Day Fiancé fans are upset by the casting choices. Currently, six of the seven couples on Happily Ever After? season 7 have been announced. Only three of the six couples appeared on 90 Day Fiancé and are married, while an additional couple is married but only appeared on a spin-off show.

Kimberly Menzies and Usman "Sojaboy" Umar are not married and only aired their romance on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. Meanwhile, Big Ed Brown and Liz Woods are engaged but have not been featured on 90 Day Fiancé either. Furthermore, Big Ed and Liz aren’t even an international couple. Though the franchise follows international couples as they navigate relationships, both Big Ed and Liz are Americans.

The spin-off show is supposed to feature married couples who appeared on 90 Day Fiancé, which makes the choices to cast Kim with Usman and Big Ed with Liz particularly confusing to viewers. Reddit user u/Planetlilmayo expressed their anger and confusion over Big Ed and Kimberly being cast on Happily Ever After? when they are not married and opened up a discussion about the topic. “Kim and Usman weren’t even engaged? Unless I missed some big news. Ed is disgusting,u/hereforcatsnplants noted. “Yes I'm looking for an explanation,” u/coconudes wrote back. Many commenters voiced their frustration that TLC would go against the formatting of their show, especially since they have plenty of spin-off shows that feature couples in various stages of relationships. Many franchise fans voiced that they prefer watching married 90 Day Fiancé couples navigate their marriages on Happily Ever After?, while shows such as 90 Day: The Single Life are intended for dating.

"Both are US citizens. neither is happy. not enough time has passed since we've last seen them for the 'ever after' to count," u/maxt0r wrote, as they detailed the reasons why both Big Ed and Kimberly are poor Happily Ever After? casting choices. While many viewers are unhappy that casting Big Ed and Kimberly with their respective partners breaks the formatting of the show, other viewers are angrier about how many franchise villains have been cast. Not only is Big Ed unmarried, but he is a massive 90 Day Fiancé franchise villain known for his chronically bad behavior and leaked verbally abusive phone call. Meanwhile, Kimberly controversially tried to pressure Usman into being intimate with her on Before the 90 Days. Likewise, Angela Deem has also been cast despite her verbally abusive behavior towards her estranged husband Michael Ilesanmi.

Overall, many 90 Day Fiancé fans are completely turned off by the cast of Happily Ever After? season 7. Only franchise couples Yara Zaya and Jovi Dufren, Libby Potthast and Andrei Castravet, and Angela and Michael, fit the format of being married and having appeared on 90 Day Fiancé. However, previews show that Angela is seemingly seeing a man in Canada. Meanwhile, Sumit Singh and Jenny Slatten from 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way round out the cast after they finally married last season. The seventh and final couple who will appear on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 7 is believed to be one of the 90 Day Fiancé season 9 newcomers. However, none of the currently-featured couples are popular enough to redeem the spin-off show for fans.
