Fans of 90 Day Fiancé already have an adversarial relationship with fledgling streaming service Discovery+, and it’s not getting any better. Paying for content they used to get with cable had fans grumbling, and now they’re getting royally peeved about the aggressive advertising before their beloved shows.

When Discovery+ was announced in December, fans of 90 Day Fiancé vowed to boycott the streaming service, citing platform burnout, as many already subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+, to name a few. Fans are also upset that they will no longer have access to new content unless they sign up for Discovery+. Love Games, 90 Day Fiancé tell-alls, and more are now going to be exclusive to the streaming service, and fans feel betrayed. What’s worse, even the dedicated fans who decided to take the plunge are now complaining about overzealous advertising on a platform they’re already paying $5 for.

Discovery+ has been preceding its 90 Day Fiancé content with long trailers for other shows on the platform—and by long, we’re talking five minutes or more. Fans were not happy about having to sit through a massive commercial for the HGTV show Fixer Upper. “This emotionally triggered me so much,” one Redditor commented,  “I came here to watch people make horrible dating choices, not horrible design choices.” Many of the fans expressed their frustration with the advertising, “I was about to flip my coffee table,” one said. The ad also confused several 90 Day Fiancé fans, who didn’t realize that they were watching a commercial and not a different show. “90 Day WAS on?? I watched about a minute of this home reno bulls*** and changed the channel assuming my tv guide was wrong,” a user added, while several others relayed similar stories.

Though many fans were understandably upset and rallied against the new streaming service, there were others who didn’t mind paying for the 90 Day Fiancé content, but had reservations about the platform for other reasons. “I got discovery+ and actually I really enjoy it BUT I agree they are pedaling it too hard,” a Redditor remarked, while another expressed difficulties with the Discovery+ app, calling it “buggy” and “a mess to look at.”

Discovery+ is still in its infancy as a platform, but it’s not off to a great start. Pushing aggressive advertising for unrelated content to viewers who are already highly critical of the service isn’t exactly a smart move. Will the platform take users’ comments and concerns as inspiration for improvement? 90 Day Fiancé fans sure hope so.
