Former 90 Day Fiancé star Deavan Clegg revealed that her son with Jihoon Lee, Taeyang, sees her new boyfriend, “Chris” Topher Park, as a father - and it is agitating some fans. Utah native Deavan was featured on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 1 with South Korean ex Jihoon, who she separated from by the end of season 2. However, Jihoon and Deavan’s relationship problems seeped beyond the scree and into social media, as TLC viewers saw their whirlwind romance collapse amidst fights. Deavan brought their son, Taeyang, back to the United States following a series of troubling allegations including abuse. And since then, Jihoon has struggled to see the 2-year-old child. Overall, 90 Day Fiancé star Deavan continues to get trashed by the fans for her actions.
The controversial 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way couple Deavan and Jihoon came off as a loved-up long-distance pair on TV, but they have now become straight-up enemies. Jihoon and Deavan had met on a dating app, and on the night of his first visit to America, the single mother became pregnant. Jihoon not being present for Taeyang’s birth turned out to be the couple’s main point of contention, and when she did fly to Korea to settle down, the cultural clashes ensued. Money was another major problem, and so was Jihoon apparently not being responsible enough. However, it was after Deavan alleged that he was hurting her older daughter, Drascilla, that she found a solid reason to ditch her 90 Day Fiancé husband.
As soon as 90 Day Fiancé fans learned of Deavan coming back to the U.S., they also saw her dating a new man Chris, a.k.a. Topher, who Jihoon claimed was Taeyang’s new dad. A messy custody battle was initiated, and fans even set up a GoFundMe page for Jihoon to get a lawyer. However, that plan also went up in flames. Now that Deavan is happily in love with Topher for over a year, Deavan opened up about how “Chris has been in Taeyang’s life longer [than Jihoon] and Taeyang does see him as a father figure.” The reply came from Deavan after a fan asked her, “does Taeyang ever (if he talks, prob not) but is he aware ur bf isn’t his dad?” The 90 Day Fiancé cast member affirmed that “it wasn’t forced on” Taeyang or Chris, and that her boyfriend wants to make sure the child who “loves him deeply” stays happy. Alas, some did not like that and expressed their frustrations on Reddit.
Deavan defended her answer by adding how her father is also not her biological dad and that the “stigma needs to be gone.” However, in a 90 Day Fiancé discussion thread on Reddit, the users shared a screenshot of Deavan’s story with the caption, “Maybe because you refused to let Taeyang see his real dad.” Another fan argued with Deavan’s answer, saying that since she took Taeyang to America in the middle of a pandemic, it’s “hard for Jihoon to be in his life” with her “making it all but impossible for Jihoon to visit.” A different comment noted, “I feel so sorry for Taeyang. I don't think he will ever see his dad again.”
One of the comments explained how “The over-explaining is a clear sign that she is trying to convince herself of the bullsh*t she spews.” An angrier fan also wrote, “Yeah, Jihoon hasn't been a father figure to Taeyang because YOU DON'T LET HIM!” followed. Amidst the 90 Day Fiancé scandal that Deavan and Jihoon have created, fans have felt that their toddler has been kept away from a happy childhood. While Deavan makes implies that Taeyang may never see Jihoon again, fans are hopeful that the couple eliminates their enmity for the sake of the child sometime soon.
