On a recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Corey Rathgeber proposed to Evelin Villegas for a second time, and though he tried to be as romantic as he could, the proposal was more awkward than suave. Viewers panned the stunt, but Evelin was charmed and surprisingly said yes. Although Corey’s proposal made many 90 Day Fiancé fans cringe, it’s ultimately Evelin’s opinion that matters, and in her eyes, Corey successfully stepped his game up.
Corey and Evelin have had a difficult relationship, and the couple has broken up and gotten back together multiple times. Despite all their issues, the two got married in secret, a fact that came to light during this season of The Other Way. Evelin seemed to be leaning towards breaking up again, but Corey wasn’t ready for divorce and has vowed to win her back. So far this season, he has made more of an effort with Evelin’s family, come clean about his past indiscretions, and even attended couple’s therapy. In a recent episode, Corey decided to prove his devotion to Evelin by re-proposing to her with the help of a few local fishermen.
For the proposal, Corey printed out a banner that read, “Evelin, will you marry me...again?,” that was held up by a couple of fishermen on a boat just off the coast. Corey had to call his helpers on his cell phone to give them the signal, but the signal was in Spanish, which Evelin speaks. Corey weirdly held on to her head until the fishermen passed by with his banner, but the sign was too far away for Evelin to read at first, and the entire proposal came off a little awkward.
Just because viewers weren’t too keen on Corey’s proposal doesn’t mean it was a failure. Evelin was actually touched by the effort that her husband put into his second proposal to her. Though it wasn’t a flawless proposal, it won Evelin over, and that’s all that really matters. Evelin was upset that Corey cheated on her, and she wanted him to atone for what he did and prove that she was a top priority for him. Corey’s proposal, though a little cringey, made Evelin feel special, which ultimately led her to say yes to getting re-engaged.
The 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way stars are technically already married, so Corey and Evelin’s re-engagement is just symbolic. Still, it was a sweet gesture on Corey’s part and a necessary one for Evelin to forgive him for what he’s done in the past. There was a lot about Corey’s proposal that was awkward, and some things didn’t work out exactly as he’d imagined them, but Evelin was delighted, and that’s all that matters.
