On 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Corey Rathgeber's hot air balloon proposal to Evelin Villegas crashed and burned. Well, figuratively, at least. Fans were nearly as desperate as Corey that Evelin would say "yes."
On the last episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, viewers were left a bit on edge. Villegas and Rathgeber first made their TV debut on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way when American citizen, Rathgeber, decided to leave his life in the United States behind to be with his true love in a third world country. The two have had to deal with the recent death of his father, as well as a cheating scandal, but somehow it looked like they survived the drama and were ready to move forward.
Rathgeber pulled out all the fireworks - literally - for his proposal to Villegas. The Oregon native first tried to speak with his soon-to-be-fiancé’s father who did not understand English. Rathgeber tried his best to memorize the correct Spanish, but in the end had to turn to his phone to translate between the two. His father-in-law was very happy, but warned Rathgeber that he would need to convince his daughter as she was the one who did not want to get married. In broken Spanish, Rathgeber laughed away his nerves and continued to help with the family chores.
Later in the episode, Rathgeber told Villegas that he was going to blindfold her and take her on an adventure. To Villegas’ credit, she humored her American boyfriend and happily got into their car not knowing their destination. He drove the two to an open field where a hot air balloon was waiting to take off with the two in tow. Sadly, the hot air balloon did not go high enough for Villegas to read her homemade sign that asked if she would marry Rathgeber. Villegas was actually terrified of the balloon and originally would not get into it, saying things in Ecuador are “sketchy.” After they had successfully made it back to the ground, Rathgeber walked his girlfriend over to the field where the sign was and got down on one knee. Villegas reluctantly agreed to the engagement, but quickly stated that “just because I said yes to the engagement doesn't mean I said yes to a wedding right away.”
Viewers were less than impressed with Villegas’ reaction and still wonder if the couple has stayed together. Villegas recognized that she was very lucky to find Rathgeber and could be mean to him at times, but that did not mean she doesn't care for him. On a sneak peek of the reunion special, fans watched as Villegas' ex-boyfriend announced that he wanted to be in a relationship with her. Fans will have to tune in for the outcome of that debacle.
