Former 90 Day Fiancé star Colt Johnson butted heads with his mother Debbie Johnson during the 90 Day: The Single Life season 3 Tell-All, but that wasn't the first time that they'd clashed. The problems between the mother-son duo started years ago, when the Las Vegas man began dating Brazilian gold digger, Larissa Lima. During that time, Debbie created many issues for her son, sabotaging his relationship with his former wife. She later did the same thing with his other girlfriend, Jess Caroline.

It wasn’t until Colt married his current wife, Vanessa Guerra, that he realized that his mother had been causing problems for him so she could stay close to him. He slowly began doubting Debbie’s every word, and eventually moved away from her, so he could start focusing on himself. Recently, the mother-son duo had a major argument regarding their troubled relationship, which ended with Colt cursing. That made his 70-year-old mom cry. Later, during the 90 Day: The Single Life season 3 Tell All, the two had another major argument, during which Colt claimed that he didn’t feel much for his mother.

While the Tell All argument ended with a hug, it raised questions about Debbie and Colt’s relationship. The two reality stars' past ups and downs make it seem like things will never get better for them. When Colt debuted on the hit TLC show, he was in love with Larissa, who seemed to be using him the entire time. Debbie felt that she had to intervene when Colt and Larissa had issues, and she also took control of Colt’s finances. As expected, Colt got stuck in the feud between his mother and his former wife, which led to him losing his temper with Pedro Jimeno and Chantel Everett backstage.

While 90 Day Fiancé viewers agree that Debbie was right to interfere, and save her son from Larissa, they didn’t appreciate her meddling in Colt’s second relationship with Jess. During that time, fans said that Debbie was a bad MIL, especially when she purposely stirred up problems for her son by planting seeds of doubts in Jess’ mind. Not only that, Debbie even proudly said, “I will do everything in my power to sabotage his relationship,” before cluing Jess in about how her son was lying to her about his relationship with Vanessa.

Colt Left Debbie Because He Didn't Want To Lose Vanessa

When Colt married his current wife, he didn’t tell his mother about it, adding, “I wanted something just for Vanessa and I.” Shockingly, Debbie claimed she was fine with that, and stated, “As long as they’re happy [and] they did what they want, I’m perfectly fine with it.” However, nothing was fine between the mother-son duo, as problems expanded between the two behind the scenes. In January 2022, Colt and Vanessa revealed something major. They said they had separated because of Debbie. This split was the major reason why Colt began doubting his mother, and decided to leave her. He even angrily said, “You’ve raised me to be just a subservient person to you. … I shouldn’t be bothered with your life. This is your life. It’s not my responsibility.” Unfortunately, many 90 Day Fiancé fans now feel that Colt and Debbie’s relationship is beyond repair.
