Many 90 Day Fiancé cast members were excited to join their partners in the United States, but some struggled to adjust to small-town life. Foreign cast members are faced with major changes, including cultural differences, language barriers, and intrusive family members. However, adjusting to life in a small town is often one of the biggest challenges that many foreign 90 Day Fiancé cast members face.

The 90 Day Fiancé franchise follows foreign spouses joining their American partners in the U.S.. Couples must marry within 90 days due to K-1 visa rules. Oftentimes, the K-1 visa period is the first experience that foreign partners have in the United States. In many cases, arriving in the United States is very exciting. However, some 90DF stars from other countries have felt unhappy after arriving at the homes of their spouses. While some living situations were less than ideal, other cast members found that they were dissatisfied with the locations of their new home.

Many foreign spouses learn about the United States from movies and media. They then have lofty expectations about life in major cities, such as New York or Los Angeles. 90 Day Fiancé cast members are then deeply disappointed when they discover that life in the middle of nowhere is not like the glamorous locations that they pictured in their heads. This has led many foreign partners to express their disappointment over life in small-town America.

Paola Mayfield

Paola Mayfield from 90 Day Fiancé

90 Day Fiancé season 1 star Paola Mayfield is one franchise cast member who did not immediately enjoy the American dream. Aspiring Colombian model Paola immediately saw red flags when it came to life with Russ Mayfield and his parents in Oklahoma. She quickly discovered that she could not make her modeling dreams come true in such a small town and conservative area. She quickly took off to Miami to integrate with the Latino community and fulfill her big city dreams. While Russ initially remained in Oklahoma City, he later moved to Miami to join his wife.

Julia Trubkina

Like Paola, 90 Day Fiancé cast member Julia Trubkina was in for a rude awakening when she joined her fiance Brandon Gibbs in Dinwiddie, Virginia. Russian woman Julia was accustomed to city life and gave up her world travels and go-go dancing career to join her American partner on his family’s farm. Julia had a memorably terrible adjustment to farm life, and shared that she intensely disliked caring for animals, and having to follow Brandon’s strict parents' rules. Julia eventually agreed to move to a larger city in Virginia, after reluctantly accepting the fact that she and Brandon lacked the funds to live in a major American city.

Miona Bell

Miona Bell from 90 Day Fiancé Season 9

Miona Bell recently made her franchise debut during the ongoing 90 Day Fiancé season 9. The Serbian woman joined her fiance Jibri Bell in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he currently lives with his parents after experiencing financial problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. While Jibri is eager to save up money before moving elsewhere, a deeply unsatisfied Miona wants to move to a major U.S. city, such as Los Angeles or New York, as soon as possible. Many 90 Day Fiancé fans have slammed Miona for being unrealistic about money, since she doesn't have a job, and either does Jibri.
