The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has become filled with dozens of couples over the years, though some are far more popular than others. Audiences tend to gravitate towards the more genuine couples who are relatable and showcase authentic love. In contrast, many cast members have been slammed for their dramatic antics and over-the-top behavior. A number of 90 Day Fiancé cast members are also known for their controlling ways.

90 Day Fiancé explores the K-1 visa process for international couples. A combination of language barriers, cultural distances, and major life changes can cause many couples to face serious issues that they can't always overcome. Oftentimes, one half of the couple tends to act out more than their partner. However, there are also many cases of both halves of the couple behaving badly in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. Meanwhile, insecurities can plague relationships and cause cast members to be overbearing.

Though it isn't always the case, often two major factors can contribute to couples being controlling. First, age gaps in relationships can cause major insecurities for the older person in the relationship. Many 90 Day Fiancé relationships contain significant age gaps, which leads to the older partner constantly worrying about their younger spouse leaving them for someone closer to their age. Meanwhile, the American partner usually behaves worse when it comes to 90 Day Fiancé content. However, all kinds of partners have been accused of being far too controlling.

Rebecca Parrott

Rebecca Parrott may still be married to her husband Zied Hakimi, but few viewers approve of the way the American grandmother treated her significantly younger Tunisian husband. Zied was in his mid-20s when he met late-40s Rebecca, and it was clear from the start that the age gap significantly bothered her. Rebecca showed extreme insecurities and memorably acted out when a female friend of her daughter offered to help Zied move. Rebecca infamously banned Zied from speaking to any other women after the incident. Meanwhile, she has poured significant effort into altering her appearance to keep up with Zied's age. Rebecca's insecurities have unfortunately caused her to completely control Zied's life and who he speaks to.

Angela Deem

Angela Deem is another franchise cast member who allowed her insecurities to lead to control issues in her relationship with a significantly younger man. Angela has been slammed by franchise fans for the abusive way she controls and speaks to her husband Michael Ilesanmi. Though it appears that Angela and Michael are now over, Angela treated her then-husband horribly on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 6. Angela screamed at her husband and verbally abused him on numerous occasions as she insisted on always knowing where he was. She was extremely suspicious of all of his actions and even tried to persuade a man to illegally track his phone. Overall, there are many reasons why Angela is a franchise villain.

Mark Shoemaker

Mark Shoemaker talking to the camera in 90 Day Fiancé

Mark Shoemaker appeared alongside his wife Nikki in season 3. Their relationship immediately caused controversy, as Nikki was just 19 and Mark was 58. The way Mark treated Nikki made many viewers extremely uncomfortable, as he talked to his wife as though she were his child- when in fact she was younger than all four of his adult children. Mark was very controlling over Nikki and infamously banned her from touching the windows in his car. Mark also forced Nikki to wear some of his daughter's old clothing and completely ran their relationship. Mark and Nikki have since entirely disappeared from the spotlight, which leaves viewers worried about how Nikki is doing in their deeply unbalanced marriage.

Once she met her long-distance boyfriend in person, Jasmine immediately demanded full access to his phone. Jasmine was so insecure and controlling that she even freaked out and accused Gino of wanting another woman when he tried to tip their waitress at dinner.

Steven Johnston

Steven Johnston quickly became a franchise villain for the way he treated his now-wife Alina on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3. Steven uses his Mormon faith to control Alina and force her to alter her lifestyle. Steven made it clear that he would only marry Alina if she converted to his faith. Being baptized into his church meant being a virgin until marriage, while Steven also prohibited Alina from drinking alcohol or caffeine. Despite Steven's strict rules when it comes to what Alina can and can't do, the American man has had multiple sexual partners and continues to talk to other women behind Alina's back. Many 90 Day Fiancé fans were very disappointed that Alina married Seven despite his behavior

Betty Gibbs

The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has featured many overbearing parents and smother mothers over the years, but Brandon Gibbs' mother Betty Gibbs might just be the most controlling franchise parent. Betty completely inserted herself into Brandon's relationship with his now-wife Julia. The overbearing mother forced the couple to sleep in separate beds until marriage and pried into their birth control methods. Betty even banned Brandon from bringing Julia tea until he finished morning farm work. Overall, Betty is the ultimate 90 Day Fiancé nightmare mother-in-law due to the extreme control issues she exhibited with her son.
