The 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Tell-All was tough on many cast members, but American Ella Johnson received the most heat from her costars. The Idaho rancher earned the wrath of 90 Day Fiancé franchise fans after she cheated on her Chinese partner, Johnny. Ella was forced to confront her bad decisions when the Before the 90 Days season 5 cast put her on blast during the two-part Tell-All.
Ella and Johnny were featured the least in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5, due to the fact that he was never able to visit Ella in person. Johnny explained that he needed to take care of his elderly parents and young son, and couldn’t risk his health by going to the United States at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. A tearful and vengeful Ella then cheated on Johnny with a friend. While Ella has claimed that the couple was in an open relationship, Johnny explained at the Tell-All that he did not want that type of non-monogamous relationship. Therefore, the Before the 90 Days cast (and viewers) were angry with Ella for cheating and playing the victim in the situation.
The cast members at the Before the 90 Days season 5 Tell-All did not hold back when it came to criticizing Ella. Kimberly Menzies was the most vocal about attacking Ella, as she was previously cheated on. However, some viewers thought that Kimberly went too far by constantly directing hostility and anger at Ella. Kimberly said she had “zero respect” for Ella due to her cheating. “If you’re in an international relationship you don’t cheat,” Kimberly declared, before emphasizing the importance of trust when dating long-distance. She also blasted Ella for being defensive, and didn’t allow Ella to comment on her relationship with Usman Umar, since she had been unfaithful to Johnny. Kimberly’s partner Usman told Ella to “buy a toy” rather than cheat.
Memphis Sandoval also had harsh words for Ella at the Before the 90 Days season 5 Tell-All. “You shouldn’t be in a long-distance relationship if you’re that vulnerable,” Memphis remarked, before asking Ella if she needed to be “coddled.” Some viewers accused Memphis of being a hypocrite in terms of her assessment of Ella. Jasmine Pineda tried to rationally evaluate the relationship with less vitriol. “If touch is so important to you, why are you gonna be in a long-distance relationship?” she asked Ella. Jasmine said that her cheating was “very wrong, not acceptable” before questioning if Ella had lied about cheating to get attention. Meanwhile, Tell-All host Shaun Robinson also asked Ella the hard questions, grilling her about seeing a male friend for her birthday.
While the Before the 90 Days season 5 women were the most vocal with their attacks, the men also voiced their disapproval. Moknii Hamza said that Ella didn’t respect Johnny, while Mike Berk, Ben Rathbun, and Gino Palazzolo all agreed that Ella was in the wrong. When it came down to it, only Johnny spoke in Ella’s defense. Although Ella claimed that she would be very understanding if Johnny cheated on her, her fellow cast members said that they highly doubted that.
