Sunday night’s new episode saw Brandon telling his parents that he was finally ready to move off the farm with Julia, though they did not take kindly to the news of their son leaving the nest.
Tensions reached an all-time high during Ron’s 70th birthday celebration. Brandon and Julia made it clear that they did not want Betty to focus the party -or any party- on them as a second wedding celebration. Despite their clear wishes, Betty made half of the party about the newlyweds. This move angered Brandon and Julia and caused them to leave the party, which earned mixed fan responses. However, viewers were on Brandon’s side when it came to him telling his parents that he was looking for a place outside of the family farm so that he and Julia could move away. Rather than support their son’s independence, his parents told him that he would struggle to make it on his own and that they would not help him.
Viewers took to Reddit to discuss Brandon’s parents and what has been considered their inappropriate response to him moving out. “Brandon’s parents acting like a grown-a** man is incapable of living on his own and paying rent is WEIRD,” a user titled their discussion post. “Are they…are they aware that 28-year-old men and women pay rent, bills, and live on their own all the time? They are acting like this is an insane idea and that only trust fund babies can move out.
