90 Day Fiancé star, Big Ed’s latest Instagram live might’ve just been an attention-grabbing stunt. In the video, BigEd’s notebook caught on fire but he seemingly didn’t notice until it was completely ablaze in his hands.

Big Ed garnered a lot of attention when he appeared on season four of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. Fans were outraged at his mistreatment towards his then-girlfriend Rose and the insensitive comments he made about the Philippines and Rose’s home. Others focused on his kneck condition which lent to his unusually small stature at a mere 4'1".

Sossshul Meja re-posted the video under the r/90DayFiance subreddit on Reddit. In the video, Big Ed is sitting on a couch with his dog, Teddy. Teddy is relaxing on a red pillow as Big Ed begins to lean closer and closer to a coffee table with a fire feature running down the center. As Big Ed adjusts his positioning, the portion of his notepad folded over the top dips into the flames. Big Ed stays in this position as the flames slowly lick towards the top of the notepad. Big Ed doesn’t notice the pad is ablaze until the fire has consumed the entire folded over portion. Check out the Reddit post below:

At first glance, you may think “poor Ed, he almost burned himself,” but if you watch with even a smidgeon of thought, you’ll see the entire situation seems too ridiculous to be true. Most would have some semblance of spatial awareness and know not to lean too close to the fire, but it seems like Big Ed has no clue there’s a fire feature there. In addition, very early on the towering flames cause Big Ed’s face to take on a dark red hue. There’s no way Big Ed wouldn’t have seen the flames as they spread across the back of the pad. Viewers were quick to call out the possible stunt in the comments. Some admonished him for putting Teddy in danger, others criticized him for obviously seeking attention.

It’s ironic Big Ed’s notebook caught on fire while he was reading comments from trolls. Maybe he’s trying to portray himself metaphorically burning up the trolls. More likely, he’s just trying to gain sympathy from viewers. During season four, he emerged as one of the most popular characters of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise - and not for good reason. The negative attention didn’t slow after the Tell-All episodes aired. Big Ed ended up digging himself deeper into the hatred hole by attacking Rose and making her cry. With this latest video, Big Ed is either trying to gain more attention - good or bad - or trying to take some of the heat off of his back.
